Black Bolt Actor Shares BTS Stunt Rehearsal Video For Doctor Strange 2

Anson Mount shared behind-the-scenes stunt rehearsal footage for his cameo appearance as Black Bolt in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The Sam Raimi-directed film found the titular hero bouncing from universe to universe in an attempt to protect inter-dimensional being America Chavez (Xóchitl Gomez) from Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen). The film’s hype was boosted by wild speculation regarding the endless possibilities of cameos resulting from the movie’s multiverse premises. One such cameo was Black Bolt, the king of the Inhuman Kingdom of Attilan, with Mount reprising his role as the hero previously seen in Marvel’s ABC television series Inhumans.

After Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) arrives in the 838 universe, he is arrested by Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and brought in front of the Illuminati, a council of superheroes similar to that of the Avengers. Black Bolt is one of the six members of the council, along with Mr. Fantastic (John Krasinski), Captain Marvel/Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch), Captain Carter (Hayley Atwell), Mordo, and Professor X (Patrick Stewart). Strange learns that his 838 version was previously killed by Black Bolt’s incredible vocal powers following their defeat of Thanos.

On Twitter, Mount shared a behind-the-scenes video of his secret rehearsal for a stunt as Black Bolt. The video shows Mount suspended above a padded mat while secured in a harness. After a brief countdown, Mount drops and confidently performs a dry-run of Black Bolt’s hero landing. Check out the video below.

Most likely, the stunt in the video pertains to Black Bolt’s dramatic entrance when the Illuminati face off against Wanda at the team’s headquarters. Wanda attempts to capture America in the scene, but the group of heroes blocks her path. They attempt to subdue her but are single-handedly killed by the former Avenger one by one. Black Bolt tries to use his powers but is quickly thwarted by Wanda, who uses her magic to remove his mouth. She then gruesomely crushes his skull.

Mount’s return to Marvel as Black Bolt was indeed a shock, however, his character is relatively obscure compared to Krasinski’s Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four. Mount was the star of the show Inhumans, which ABC quickly canceled after one season due to an abysmal reception from both critics and fans. However, his reappearance has raised new questions for the character’s future and a proper introduction of the Inhumans into the MCU mainstream. The failure of the show subsequently affected the trajectory of the shared universe. Ms. Marvel is arguably one of the most popular Inhuman characters within Marvel Comics; however, her character’s origins were drastically changed for her upcoming show, removing any Inhuman back-story. Whether or not Mount and Black Bolt have any future within the MCU remains to be seen, but his Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness cameo raises expectations for his possible return.
