Should Apple buy United, it could see them build a new state-of-the-art stadium for the club. Should Apple finalise a takeover, United would become the richest club in the world again – with the tech company’s wealth eclipsing that of Newcastle’s Saudi backers.

The Glazers are expected to spend the coming weeks talking to potential buyers.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Britain’s wealthiest man and a boyhood United fan, has already expressed his own interest in the club.
