England fans had the perfect response as the US faithful whipped out one of their best-known chants: "I believe that we will win!"

Three Lions supporters have been quick to poke fun at the chant in the days leading up to the two clashing in Qatar. And when England fans heard it for the first time, they hit back: "What the f***ing hell was that?"

And after a dull first half for Gareth Southgate's side, and Luke Shaw's nutmeg, fans joked it was the moment of the half – after slamming England's poor performance.

One fan tweeted: "The 'I believe that we will win' chants from the USA fans, immediately cancelled out by 'What the f***ing hell was that' by the England fans."

"'What the f***ing hell is that' against 'I believe that we will win' was hilarious LMFAOOO," a second joked. While a third added: "I'm waiting for the England fans to pull out some elite chant about some US player's past mistake to Symphony no.5!"

And a fourth said: "England fans are light years ahead of USA fans when it comes to football chants."

England struggled for the first period against the US, as Kane scuffed the Three Lions' best chance in the opening half.

The US grew into the game, and even carved out some half-chances of their own to give Southgate's side a scare – who are still missing a win against the US in a competitive clash.
