UFC star left ‘unable to walk’ after hematoma turns into abscess following brutal kicks

UFC fighter AJ Dobson has revealed he was unable to walk following his defeat at UFC 280.

Dobson, 30, was beaten by unanimous decision by Armen Petrosyan in Dubai last month, on the undercard of Islam Makhachev vs Charles Oliveira.

The American middleweight got himself back in the gym soon after the fight but revealed he was left with a number of hematomas on his legs, which are caused when blood collects under the skin.

And in a horrific turn of events, that soon became infected and turned into an abscess, with Dobson revealing the extent of his problems on Instagram.

He uploaded a series of graphic pictures of the leg as its condition worsened, which you can see by clicking below. He told his fans: "After my last fight I was left with a few hematomas on my shin from eating leg kicks.

About a week ago it violently turned into an abscess and within two days I was unable to walk on my own and had an unwavering fever.

"We’re back on the road to recovery but I still have a lot to be thankful for. I might be out for a while but the goal remains the same! Thanks to my team and management for the help and support! I’ll be back soon."

Dobson's fans were quick to send on their well wishes, with Joe Riddle telling him: "Take care of yourself first brother. Fighting can wait."

And Debbie Odom added: "Hoping for a speedy recovery! Sending good vibes and support!!"

Dobson featured in Dana White's Contender Series in 2021 and managed to land himself a contract in the UFC. However, he has now lost his two fights against Petrosyan and Jacob Malkoun, having previously gone undefeated in his professional career.

Speaking ahead of the defeat to Petrosyan, he revealed he had been fighting with a knee injury for four years.

“I tore my knee in 2016 or 2017, and I just had to suck it up. All these injuries that these guys would have, and they would just suck it up, train what they could and still break records," he said.

"So, I was kinda pulling from those guys. I just have a bucket handle meniscus tear – it's all right; put a knee sleeve on, rub some dirt on it, it will be all right. (Laughs) It's just that ‘Work through it’ mindset that I've always been surrounded by.”
