Serbia turn into ‘prime Barcelona’ with stunning World Cup goal from silky move

Serbia well and truly turned on the style against Cameroon after briefly transforming into Pep Guardiola-era Barcelona.

Fans went nuts on social media when Fulham hotshot Aleksandar Mitrovic tapped home at the end of a sweeping Serbian move that put just about every Cameroonian player on his arse.

Running at the defence after winning the ball on the half-way line, Mitrovic played in team-mate Filip Kostic on the left flank who then laid it off to Sergej Milinkovic-Savic on the edge of the box. Beautifully, the Lazio man feigned pulling the trigger before feeding Andrija Zivkovic on the right-hand side, who then cut the ball back across to Mitrovic for a tap-in. *Chef's kiss*

"What a beautiful goal, that was shades of 2011 Barcelona. Wow. Serbia simply the better team. Punishing a giveaway in Cameroons own half," one fan tweeted in response to the strike.

"Serbia playing like 2010 Barcelona," another tweeted, while a third wrote: "Beautiful football from Serbia, surely the goal of the tournament so far! Or the best team goal at least!"

Barcelona were unstoppable around the 2010 era – especially Lionel Messi

The goal put Serbia 3-1 up and presumably out of sight, but minutes later Cameroon hit back with a goal of the tournament contender of their own.

Vincent Aboubakar scooped the ball over stranded Serbian keeper stranded Serbia goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic to drag his side back into it, and three minutes later, the Africans grabbed an richly-deserved equaliser through Eric Choupo-Moting.

Jean-Charles Castelletto had initially given Cameroon the lead in the first half before Serbia stormed back into the game with a quick-fire double in first-half stoppage time, with Strahinja Pavlovic and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic getting on the scoresheet.

Mercifully, the spoils were shared, with the game – one of the tournament's best so far – finishing 3-3.
