Boxing fans call for Eddie Hearn boycott after promoter’s ‘thick as s***’ rant
Eddie Hearn was slammed for calling boxing fans 'thick as s***' in a rant after Dillian Whyte's controversial win over Jermaine Franklin.
Whyte laboured to a majority points decision victory as the judges came under fire after an uneventful heavyweight clash at Wembley Arena. The 'Bodysnatcher' was not firing at all against the undefeated, but crucially, untested American who was seen as a routine opponent on his return to the ring after being knocked out by Tyson Fury in April.
But Whyte ultimately prevailed after almost stopping Franklin moments before the final bell, with two judges favouring the 34-year-old with cards of 116-112, while the third scored a 115-115 draw.

Furious Franklin claimed he felt 'robbed' by the decision, while plenty of boxing fans on social media shared his view that Whyte had got away with a contentious decision. However, Whyte's promoter Hearn was adamant that the result was far from a 'robbery.'
"It is not a robbery at all," Hearn said in the post-fight press conference. "It was a very close fight that could have gone either way. I thought it was 115-113 to Dillian Whyte. If that is the case, then I can see a draw.
"I gave Dillian rounds 10, 11 and 12 and unquestionably gave him at least three rounds in the first nine. People can call it either way but calling it a robbery is a joke. Anyone who thinks it was is thick as s*** in all honesty."
Hearn was criticised by boxing fans for his rant, with some even calling for a boycott of his promotion Matchroom's DAZN streaming service in the wake of Whyte's win. "Calling the majority of fans thick will do down well, they should all boycott DAZN boxing," one irked fan wrote.
"Everybody should boycott Dazn, Jermaine Franklin won that fight tonight and was robbed," another added. "Big robbery," a third claimed. "Boycott the UK, Matchroom Boxing, Eddie Hearn, all of em!"
While Whyte was unconvincing against Franklin, his victory could help set up a rematch against old rival Anthony Joshua in the new year. Joshua was ringside as Whyte edged out Franklin at the Wembley Arena.
