Mikel Arteta is reportedly in no rush to extend his Arsenal contract amid rumours linking him to Barcelona and Manchester City.

Arteta's stock is sky high following Arsenal's impressive start to the season. The Gunners are top of the Premier League, having won 12 of their opening 14 matches.

It is a remarkable turnaround for both Arteta and the north Londoners after they imploded in the final weeks of the 2021-22 campaign and missed out on Champions League football.

And it has seemingly not gone unnoticed by two of Europe's biggest clubs. According to Spanish publication Sport, Barcelona are very aware of the impressive work Arteta has done at the Emirates and view him as someone capable of managing the club in the future.

It is also claimed that Arteta knows he has admirers at Manchester City. The Spanish manager learned his trade working alongside Pep Guardiola at the Emirates before taking the Arsenal job in 2019 and has long been suggested as a potential replacement to the Catalan chief. The report adds that Arteta does not want to rush a decision over his future.

Guardiola only recently agreed a two-year extension to his current deal, keeping him at the Etihad until 2025 – a date that coincides with the end of Arteta's new Arsenal contract that he signed back in May.

Arteta dismissed speculation linking him to the Nou Camp job when he was quizzed on links earlier this month. He claimed that he is "extremely happy" to be at the Gunners before paying tribute to the club's current incumbent, Xavi Hernandez.

"I think Barcelona now they are in a really good path," Arteta said before Arsenal's Europa League win over FC Zurich. "They have a phenomenal coach, a coach that has been an absolute legend in that club and has lifted the whole place and you have to be very respectful of that."
