Analyst predicts Eagles will finish regular season 17-0
The 1972 Miami Dolphins. The 2007 New England Patriots. The 2022 Philadelphia Eagles?
For a piece published Friday, ESPN NFL analyst Jordan Reid predicted that the 8-0 Eagles will run the table and finish the regular season with a perfect 17-0 record.
“Just look at their schedule. Five of the Eagles’ final eight opponents have a record under .500,” Reid explained. “Philadelphia is currently the third-ranked team in ESPN’s (Football Power Index). The model favors the Eagles in eight of nine remaining games — all by more than a touchdown.”
The Eagles beat the division-rival Dallas Cowboys (6-2) at home 26-17 back in Week 6. Philadelphia will travel to Dallas for a Christmas Eve showdown.
“The one projected loss is a road trip to Dallas in Week 16, but it’s a winnable game for Philly,” Reid added.
ESPN’s Tim McManus also suggested Friday that the Eagles could begin their postseason run in January without having suffered a loss across their first 17 games.
“They have yet to trail at any time in the second half this season and are among the league leaders in most major statistical categories, including turnover differential (first: plus-15), points per game (second: 28.1), total yards per game (third: 391), takeaways (first: 18) and opponent points per game (third: 16.9),” McManus noted. “What’s more, Philly has the easiest remaining schedule in the NFL according to ESPN’s Football Power Index, beginning with a home ‘Monday Night Football’ matchup against the Washington Commanders in which they’re favored by double-digits (-11). The conversation is heating up about just how far the Eagles can push this undefeated streak.”
As for the Eagles possibly remaining unbeaten through the last play of Super Bowl LVII in February, Pro Football Talk’s Josh Alper pointed out on Nov. 4 that “none of the last 10 teams to open a season 8-0 have won the Super Bowl.” Before Philadelphia players and coaches can begin worrying about such things, they’ll first have to concentrate on taking care of business at home against the underdog Commanders in front of a prime-time national television audience.
