Squid Game Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk To Satirize His Own Creation For The Best Show On The Planet

Though you might think that Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk would be spending all of his time working on the next season of his giant hit (lest Netflix send masked guards round to his house to keep tabs on him), the Korean filmmaker is also developing other projects, and one is surprising: a satire called The Best Show On The Planet based on his experiences creating the killer drama.

Squid Game, which was easily among the most talked-about shows of last year, followed down-on-their-luck players offered the chance to win a big cash prize by competing in lethal versions of childhood games such as Tug of War.

Though, according to Deadline there's no formal order for the next season show yet, this has to be the closest thing to a nailed-on certainty in TV right now. Fan favorite Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) will return along with the shadowy Front Man, played by Lee Byung-hun. Hwang is aiming to launch the new season around Halloween 2024.

And he's got a third iron in the fire, a film inspired by a novel by Italian essayist Umberto Eco, with the working title Killing Old Man’s Club. Talk about keeping to your theme… He's describing it as "more violent" than Squid Game, which is saying something. Read more from Hwang at Deadline's site.
