Actor and filmmaker Tyler Perry, has just landed a new lucrative film deal. Variety reports that the filmmaker best known for his “Madea” films, has entered into a four-picture pact with Amazon Studios.

Under the new deal, Perry will write, direct, and produce four new movies for Amazon Prime Video.

Amazon Prime Video is available in 240 countries and territories worldwide. The streaming service already carries several films from Perry’s filmography, including “Daddy’s Little Girls,” “Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Big Happy Family,” “For Colored Girls,” “Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas,” and “Tyler Perry’s Single Moms Club.”

In a statement on the deal, Perry noted that he’s “excited and grateful” to be collaborating with Amazon Studios to bring new movies to Prime Video. He noted that he is also “looking forward to continuing telling unique stories and bringing my next projects to the global audiences that they reach.”

Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke also praised the filmmaker as “one of the most prolific creators of our time.” She added that the studio is excited about the upcoming collaboration and bringing Perry’s “signature films” to the global Amazon Prime Video audience.

Perry’s success has his net worth currently valued at $1 billion. Last year, he was awarded the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. In 2020, he received the Governor’s Award for the Primetime Emmy Awards for his unprecedented achievements in television and his commitment to offering opportunities to marginalized communications through personal and The Perry Foundation programs of inclusion, engagement, employment, and other philanthropic initiatives.

Perry’s last three films were released by Netflix with “A Jazzman’s Blues,” “A Fall From Grace,” and “A Madea Homecoming.” The “Madea” film series has also grossed well over half a billion at the worldwide box office.

Variety notes that “A Fall From Grace” drew up to 26 million viewers during its first week of release on Netflix, so Perry’s work still draws an audience. “A Madea Homecoming” is the latest installment of the “Madea” franchise, in which Perry also stars as the titular character. Perry has played the character on the big screen going back to 2005’s “Diary of a Mad Black Woman,” and Madea is still going strong to this very day.

Amazon Studios has recently been putting together some major talent, picture, and television deals. As reported by The Blast, Amazon Prime Video recently confirmed the order of a suite of new live-action television shows based on the Sony Pictures universe of Marvel Characters. This includes “Silk: Spider Society,” which will be available on the MGM+ linear network and globally on Amazon Prime Video.

Last year, Amazon Studios also signed a three-picture film and first-look deal with actor and comedian Eddie Murphy. The deal will have Murphy star in three films for Amazon Studios and also develop original projects for Prime Video and Studios with the potential for him to also star in.

Another first-look deal Amazon Studios signed last year was with Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society. So, this latest deal with Perry looks to be another major filmmaker talent deal by Amazon Studios.
