Half of Brits would rather be gifted an experience this Christmas than material goods

Food and drinks experiences, seaside holidays, luxury getaways, and wildlife experiences are among the top gifts Brits would like to receive this Christmas in place of a traditional wrapped present, research has found.

Over half of Brits (51%) would rather be gifted an experience, or a monetary contribution towards an experience, on Christmas Day, according to a poll of 2,000 adults who celebrate the festive season.

Nearly four in five (78%) of those polled believe gifting an experience is just as thoughtful as gifting a material present.

And 38% of couples have already broached the subject with their loved one of topping up the holiday funds kitty for Christmas, instead of exchanging material gifts.

Of the parents surveyed, one in eight (13%) revealed their ideal gifts would be more experiences and making memories with their kids, rather than receiving a pressie.

The research was commissioned by Haven Holidays, which has also created a quiz to help those who are stuck with whether to give cash, or buy a gift.
