A Polish Playboy model once took over her local club in an attempt to save them from the drop.

Back in January 2011, Warta Poznan were struggling in the Polish second division when blonde beauty Izabela Lukomska-Pyzalska become chairwoman and owner during the winter break. The model, who had appeared in both the Polish and American editions of Playboy magazine, vowed to save the club from relegation and improve their fortunes.

Lukomska-Pyzalska had also been named Girl of the Year by Playboy Poland during her time modelling for the world famous magazine distributor.

Having taken over at Warta, she revealed that she had no concerns about what men might think about a woman running the club.

"This isn’t a problem for me," explained Lukomska-Pyzalska, via the Daily Mail. "It’s my meat and drink. Real estate and construction – that’s hardly a woman’s world either. I worked as a model a good few years ago.

"I’ve been in construction and property development for five years. In those five years, we’ve become one of Poznan’s leading developers. I think I can achieve the same in football."

She also added: "I don’t have a light touch in the construction sector. I’ll be looking for the same things in football: order and discipline."

The former Playboy model stuck to her promise in the boardroom, with Warta repaying their debts and avoiding relegation in the 2010/11 season.

However, they would go on to drop into the third tier in 2013 and later slipped into the fourth division. A resurgence during the second half of the 2010s saw them gain promotion to the top flight in 2020.

That promotion represented a return to the Ekstraklasa for the first time since 1995 for Warta. Lukomska-Pyzalska would remain in her role until leaving the club in 2018.

She has become a notable figure in Polish football in recent years and even ran for a seat on the board of the Polish Football Association in 2012.

Along with the rest of the nation, she will be hoping to see a Polish victory in their final World Cup group game on Wednesday when they face Argentina.

Poland currently top group C after a draw with Mexico and win over Saudi Arabia. As a result, a point against Argentina will be enough to take them through, with a victory confirming progression as group winners regardless of what happens elsewhere.
