Bears waste another superstar performance from Justin Fields

The Chicago Bears seem to have found their quarterback in Justin Fields.

Unfortunately the rest of the team is still holding everything back.

Fields continued his recent rise with another sensational performance against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, only to have the team fall just short in a thrilling 31-30 loss.

Fields was electrifying on the ground again, topping the 140-yard rushing mark for the second week in a row. That included an effortless 67-yard touchdown run that set a new franchise record for longest touchdown run by a quarterback, breaking the mark that he set just one week ago.

He also threw for two more touchdowns.

He did have a pick-six in the game that proved to be a big moment in the game, but he also nearly single-handedly moved the offense down the field and kept them in the game.

Fields had strong words for himself after the game regarding that pick six.

Bears QB Justin Fields on the pick-6: “I can assure you that will never happen again for the rest of my career.”

It’s quite a turnaround for Fields individually after his long-term future was being hotly debated following a brutal showing against the Washington Commanders on Thursday Night Football in Week 6. He did not seem to be progressing in year two of his career, and the Bears offense around him was a mess–from the offensive line to the skill position players.

But since that game, Fields been a man on a mission and putting up superstar numbers.

In the Bears’ past four games, Fields has thrown eight touchdowns to only two interceptions, while also rushing for 467 yards and five additional touchdowns. That is All-Pro level play.

And the Bears? They are just 1-3 in those games, having dropped each of the past three. They have allowed at least 31 points in each of those losses.

This season already seems like a lost cause for Chicago in terms of the playoffs, so the best hope is that Fields continues to progress and establish himself as a top-tier NFL quarterback. That is the most important and valuable position in the league, and if you have a good one you are going to have a chance. After decades of searching, it is starting to look like the Bears might have their guy.

Now they just need to build around him.
