Cody Rhodes vs Seth Rollins At Hell In A Cell Will Be 2022's Best

WWE is giving fans Christmas in June this year, with Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins set to square off at the Hell In A Cell premium live event in Chicago on June 5. It will be the third time these two have battled since Rhodes came back, with the stakes only getting higher each time. The American Nightmare returned to WWE at WrestleMania 36, nearly stealing the show with Rollins in the process.

The Monday Night Messiah would argue that he didn’t have time to prepare for that match, leading to a second encounter at the WrestleMania Backlash premium live event. There it became clear that Rhodes would do anything it took to achieve the dream of becoming WWE champion. Some fans wondered if that would be the end of the feud between two of the best in the business today, and it seemed like it was over on the May 9 episode of Monday Night Raw. Rhodes had earned a shot at the United States Champion, Theory, but Rollins interfered in that match, which led to an electric promo from Cody on the May 16 edition of Raw.

Rhodes told the crowd at Scope Arena in Norfolk, VA, that he had realized that he’d never be the American Dream while he was away. “So why not embrace the nightmare?” he asked. It plays into the win-at-all-costs characterization that began to emerge at Backlash and opens the door for an exceptional contest between himself and Rollins at Hell In A Cell. “I’ll see you in hell,” Rhodes quipped after The Visionary accepted the challenge, and there’s a good chance these two performers will drag the audience down with them in what could be the best match WWE puts on all year.

Both of these performers are willing to do whatever it takes inside the ring to put on a good show. Now that there is actual animosity between the two men, the temperature will only increase in the coming weeks. Rollins has veered into personal territory a few times, but nothing major. The promo work leading up to Hell In A Cell looks set to escalate, though, giving fans a lot to latch onto heading into a premium live event that won’t feature Roman Reigns defending any of his championships.

Rhodes and Rollins have a lot to gain by putting each other over in this bout too. Rhodes will be trying to leverage the “nightmare” aspect of his persona, showing the audience how far he’ll go to beat his opponent. Meanwhile, Rollins is in dire need of redeeming himself inside the steel structure after a disaster of a match with The Fiend. That all can’t be pinned on him, but it’s still a sour taste that remains in the mouths of fans who witnessed the debacle. Both in character and out of it, Rollins and Rhodes have everything needed to make this rubber match a special one in WWE.
