Fans say World Cup is ‘rigged’ and Brazil are getting ‘special treatment’ after 4-1 win

Fans are convinced Brazil are getting "special treatment" at the World Cup after a dubious refereeing decision helped them storm to a 4-1 thrashing of South Korea.

After going 1-0 up through Vinicius Jr after just seven minutes, the five-time tournament winners effectively sealed the tie after Neymar netted a second from the spot, but fans were shocked the penalty was even awarded.

Referee Clement Turpin decided Richarlison had been hacked to the ground by Korean midfielder Jung Woo-young, despite the fact the Tottenham man only took a light brushing to the studs, sparking a furious reaction on social media.

"The World Cup is rigged for Brazil because they got washed so many times in big games because how the hell is that a penalty?" tweeted one disgruntled fan.

"No BS I really really think this whole World Cup is rigged, how is that a pen?" commented another, while a third wrote: "Why Brazil getting special treatment and winning?? This World Cup is rigged!"

"It's classic Brazil at the World Cup. FIFA want them to win so badly," tweeted another.

There was nothing dubious about Brazil's third goal however, with Richarlison finishing off an absolute peach of a team move, to add to his growing list of tournament wonder-strikes.

Lucas Paqueta scored a fourth for Brazil just before half-time, while Paik Seung-ho netted a consolation for Korea with 15 minutes left.

The victory sees Neymar and Co secure a quarter-final clash with Croatia, who beat Japan on penalties earlier today, with many tipping them to go all the way and win the tournament, especially if their luck with the officials holds out.
