Brazil set for Argentina showdown in World Cup semi-final after ‘easy’ path to last-four

Brazil and Argentina are perfectly set to face each other in the World Cup semi-finals – but fans are not happy.

A Neymar-led Brazil demolished South Korea 4-1 in their last-16 tie on Monday. The Selecao looked a class above their Asian opponents as they booked their place in the quarter-finals.

Should they beat Croatia in the next round, Tite's side will face the winner of Netherlands vs Argentina in the final four. And many are expecting Lionel Messi to drag his team to victory to set up an all-South American semi-final clash.

It would of course be a repeat of the Copa America final in 2021, which saw Messi edge former Barcelona teammate Neymar to his long-awaited first international trophy.

But many fans are not as excited as one might expect due to the "easy" nature of the two sides' routes to the semis.

Do you think Brazil would beat Argentina in the semi-finals? Let us know in the comments section.

One Twitter user wrote: "Brazil got easiest route to semi finals ever man f*** sake."

Another fan issued the same sentiment, tweeting: "Why Brazil getting special treatment and winning?? This World Cup is rigged!" while a third added: "Brazil really got a Mickey Mouse path to the Semi-Final."

A fourth fan vented: "Bet nobody is going to mention how Brazil have the easiest route to the final out of any other team in the tournament. Only gets mentioned when it’s 'England haven’t beaten anyone'."

Messi scored in Argentina's 2-1 victory over Australia on Saturday. Yet it was far closer affair between the two-time champions and their opponents than many would have thought beforehand.

Argentina and Brazil both also suffered shock defeats in the group stage against Saudi Arabia and Cameroon respectively but were still able to progress. And Brazil were fortunate to draw South Korea instead of rivals Uruguay, who narrowly missed out on qualification on matchday three.
