The actress had left her fans in shock after announcing that she and her husband of 14 years, Cory Hardrict, were getting divorced. Besides making the announcement last month, Mowry has been working on herself, experiencing an “awakening” that forced her to look at her marriage from various angles.

During Wednesday’s “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna” episode, Mowry chatted with Jenna Bush Hager and Hoda Kotb about how she did not consider the end of her relationship a failure. After noting that her marriage was a “success,” the “Sister, Sister” actress stated:

“I look at it as like a curriculum when you’re in college or high school. You’re learning; you’re growing; you’re evolving; you’re creating.”

She noted that she had been able to create “some beautiful, amazing children” with Hardrict, adding, “at the end of that curriculum, there’s a graduation, there’s a celebration. So that’s basically how I’m looking at it now.”

Mowry continued by expressing that people usually equated marital success with longevity when they should be asking, “are they happy? Are they thriving? Are they growing?” which she felt was “most important.” For the “Twitches” star, it was not about “staying in something” but “really, again, are you happy? Because life is really short.”

The “Baggage Claim” star, who shares two kids — Cree and Cairo — with Hardrict, had filed for divorce on October 3, citing irreconcilable differences in the papers. She then took to Instagram to tell her fans that she and the “Never Been Kissed” actor had decided to split.

Despite the breakup, the couple had intentions of remaining cordial for the sake of their kids. The Blast shared that Mowry showed some respect for her estranged husband when she wished him a “happy birthday” as he turned 43 last Wednesday.

However, the “Yeah, Yeah, Yeah!” singer opted for an Instagram story featuring an image of the “All American: Homecoming” actor standing with their children in front of a merry-go-round. The birthday boy looked dapper in a pink shirt over matching shorts, white tennis shoes, and matching socks.

As for the kids, Cree donned a white shirt, light blue shorts, white sneakers, and tie-dye socks. The 11-year-old’s curly locks were tucked under a white bucket cap while his sister matched their dad’s pink fit with her long-sleeved blouse, long pants, and white sneakers.

She wrote, “HAPPY BIRTHDAY @CORYHARDRICT A THANK YOU FOR BEING THE BEST FATHER TO OUR BEAUTIFUL BABIES,” across the picture, which was set to the tune of Stevie Wonder’s “Happy Birthday.”

Earlier this month, The Blast observed that Mowry was getting accustomed to her new life as a single mom, thanks to an Instagram reel that she posted. The clip showcased her morning routine and started with the 44-year-old picking up an affirmation card from its deck.

Shortly after reading the card, she stepped into the shower, shaving her legs and washing her hair. Mowry then went into her massive wardrobe, changed into an orange sweatsuit set, and styled her hair. She brewed a cup of tea which she carried into the pool area to do some work, before Cairo joined her, earning a kiss on the cheek.

The clip, set to Nigerian artist Tems’ “Free Mind,” finished with the “Instant Mom” screen goddess smiling at the camera and sipping her tea. The Pepperdine University alum partly wrote under the video:

“With new chapters comes anxiety, uncertainty, and fear. Having a routine helps me clear my mind and hit the reset button.”

The former “Voices” member explained that her morning routine was not an attempt at “being perfect” but about “finding rituals” that reminded her that “pouring” into her cup helped her feel “more grounded as I navigate this new chapter of my life.”

The mother-of-two continued that it was more effortless for her to practice her “daily gratitudes, be more productive and focused,” thus becoming a “better version” of herself when she could “savor a slow start.” The post was applauded by many of Mowry’s followers, with one person calling her honesty “awe-inspiring.”
