Thor: Love & Thunder Runtime Reportedly Revealed (But Is It Real?)

A theater chain has let Thor: Love and Thunder‘s reported runtime slip, seemingly revealing the film will be the shortest Marvel Cinematic Universe movie in six years. The next film in Phase Four of the MCU will pick up sometime after the events of Avengers: Endgame as Thor sets off with the Guardians of the Galaxy on various adventures through the cosmos. However, when he finds himself disillusioned and wanting instead to find inner peace, Thor steps away from the superhero world, only to be forced back into action when Gorr the God Butcher begins slaying various gods.

Chris Hemsworth is once again leading the cast of Thor: Love and Thunder alongside fellow MCU vets Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman, Chris Pratt, Jamie Alexander, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Jeff Goldblum, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper and Taika Waititi, who is also back at the helm. The film will also mark the MCU debuts of Christian Bale as the villainous Gorr the God Butcher, Russell Crowe as Zeus and Melissa McCarthy as an Asgardian actress playing Hela alongside returning Matt Damon, Sam Neill and Luke Hemsworth. Thor: Love and Thunder‘s release is right around the corner and a surprising new bit of information has arrived for the film.

With just over a month remaining until it hits theaters, the Thor: Love and Thunder runtime has reportedly been revealed (via CBR). According to a listing from Australian theater chain Event Cinema, the latest Chris Hemsworth-led MCU adventure will clock in at 115 minutes, or an hour and 55 minutes. Neither Marvel Studios or Disney have confirmed the runtime and no major American theater chains show a runtime listed for Thor: Love and Thunder at the time of writing.

Should the Thor: Love and Thunder runtime prove to be genuine, it would establish the film as not only one of the shortest MCU entries but also the shortest in six years since the first Doctor Strange movie, which also clocked in at 115 minutes. The majority of recent MCU movies have seen much longer runtimes, some of which have divided critics and audiences alike, namely last year’s Eternals, which received mixed reviews for its 158-minute runtime and slower pace. The most recent MCU film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, saw a polarized response from reviewers and viewers for its 128-minute runtime, a shorter than expected length given the sheer scale expected of the multiverse adventure.

Some comic book movies outside of the MCU have tried to learn from this lesson, namely Sony’s Spider-Man Universe as both Venom movies and Morbius came in either just shy of or just over 100 minutes, though their reviews widely varied. While Thor: Love and Thunder‘s shorter runtime may create some uncertainty amongst audiences, Waititi proved to have a strong handle on the character and material with Thor: Ragnarok and has teased he upcoming sequel as his favorite film of his own. Only time will tell whether the runtime proves to be true in the lead up to Thor: Love and Thunder‘s July 8 release.
