Byron Leftwich agrees with Tom Brady about Buccaneers’ ’embarrassing’ effort

Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich seems to agree with quarterback Tom Brady about the team’s game-day efforts this season.

“It hasn’t been every down,” Leftwich responded when asked about the subject Thursday, per the Joe Bucs Fan website and Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. “We’ve had downs where we can be better from an effort standpoint. It’s been addressed and I think we can get better. And that’s what I mean about, ‘what we can fix.’ I think we can fix all the things that’s been in our way throughout the year. Obviously, it’s been a tough beginning of the year; a lot of things have been going on. So, as I think we’re beginning to settle down, we’re getting more into football mode, more aware of what we need to do.

“We can’t be talking effort. We can’t be talking effort from really anybody, especially this time of year.”

Brady raised eyebrows when he commented on Monday’s edition of his “Let’s Go!” SiriusXM show and podcast after this past Sunday’s win over the Los Angeles Rams that “our effort level on game-day” has been “probably the most embarrassing part of our team” that sits at 4-5 heading into this Sunday’s matchup against the 6-3 Seattle Seahawks. However, head coach Todd Bowles seemed to disagree with the seven-time Super Bowl champion later in the week.

“It was huge [to beat the Rams] after losing three weeks in a row, you get very sour and you have a very sour taste in your mouth for a long time, not from lack of effort, but lack of execution, lack of doing things right,” Bowles said during his Buccaneers Radio Network show, according to Joe Bucs Fan.

Whatever has been ailing the Buccaneers that isn’t Brady-related this fall, it seems neither the 45-year-old nor Leftwich will tolerate anything less than Tampa Bay players leaving it all on the field through the second half of the season.
