Ben White was sent home from the World Cup because he refused to do his homework on England's opponents.

The Arsenal man mysteriously dropped out of the squad and flew back to London last week with the FA citing 'personal reasons', but it's now understood he was dismissed for bad behaviour.

White had apparently been struggling to mix with his team-mates out in Qatar and an alleged spat with Gareth Southgate's assistant Steve Holland in front of the entire squad proved to be the last straw.

The pair are understood to have exchanged words when White turned up for a team meeting ahead of the Group B clash with the USA not knowing some vital information relating to his personal stats.

Holland is also said to have been less than impressed with White's poor knowledge of England's American opponents, and a mutual decision was made to release him from the tournament when the two had an argument about it.

White hadn't been involved in any of England's matches at the tournament, though many thought he stood a chance of featuring if Southgate ever decided to switch to a back five.

His departure coincided with the exit of Raheem Sterling, who flew home from Qatar following news that his home had been burgled, though the Chelsea man has since returned to the squad and is in line to face France on Saturday.
