Rebel Wilson Reveals She Was Once Sexually Harassed On Set

Actress and comedian Rebel Wilson recently revealed during a cover story interview for People magazine that she once got sexually harassed by a male co-star on one of her film sets. She said it was an awful and disgusting experience.

Wilson shockingly explained that the actor did the disgusting act in front of a group of his friends who made no effort to stop him. She shared how she handled the incident, including documenting all evidence she had immediately.

Wilson also spoke about the few regrets she had concerning the incident and how she would handle it differently if it happened again. Wilson was also allegedly not the only woman to complain about this particular actor.

Rebel Wilson Didn’t Reveal The Man’s Name

The “Pitch Perfect” actress shared the details with People of the traumatizing experience from that day but refused to reveal the actor’s name or the film they were shooting. Wilson said, “He called me into a room and pulled down his pants,” in front of his friends, and then asked her to perform a lewd act, which she refused.

The 42-year-old actress continued, “It was awful and disgusting. And all the behavior afterwards — this was all before #MeToo — where they kind of tried to destroy me and my career. If it had happened after #MeToo, then I could have just blasted them.”

She referenced the #MeToo movement, in which many actors, celebrities, and influential figures were exposed for any sexual assault, harassment, rape, and other sexual-related crimes they had committed and tried to hide.

She Reported And Documented The Incident

Wilson also explained that she made sure she reported the incident because she knew the steps she had to take legally to protect herself. Wilson studied Law and has a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of South Wales, so she is well versed in the legal ramifications of the man’s actions.

Despite her knowledge, she was still hesitant to complain to her agency and the higher-ups. Wilson said, “I thought even complaining to my agency was a big step,” but thankfully, she did anyway.

She said, “Because I’m a lawyer, I documented it. I called my rep. I got certain things in writing about what happened. Definitely, amongst industry circles, I made sure people knew what happened.”

Wilson also spoke about the few regrets she had concerning how she handled the incident. The “The Hustle” actress said she now believes that she should have walked away from the movie they were filming together.

She said, “I should have left. It wasn’t worth it. But at the same time, I was like, ‘Oh well, do the right thing, be a professional and finish the movie.’ Now I would never do that.”

Wilson now knows that she could have taken up the incident and stated she would never let it die down if it happened again. She said, “If it happened again, I would probably stand up for myself even more just because of the bravery of the other women that have stood up and now allowed me an opportunity.”

Rebel Wilson Wasn’t The Only One Who Complained

During the cover story interview, Wilson also revealed that when she reported the actor to the studio, she found out that she wasn’t the only woman who had complained of him harassing her. She learned that she was the fourth person to file a complaint about him.

The “How To Be Single” actress said, “I found out I was like the fourth person to complain about the guy. Such gross behavior, but a lot of women have had it way worse. However, the experience taught her always to put her safety first.

Wilson said as a producer and actress, she now prioritizes the safety of everyone on any set she works on and ensures they all feel respected on the set. She said she pushed for this on the set of her latest Netflix movie, “Senior Year.”
