Yael Grobglas Reveals Filming Hallmark’s ‘Hanukkah on Rye’ Was ‘Tricky’ For One Reason

Yael Grobglas is opening up about her all new Hallmark movie, Hanukkah on Rye, which premieres tonight!

The 38-year-old actress stars alongside Jeremy Jordan in the final film in Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas 2022 programming.

Hanukkah on Rye centers on Molly and Jacob, who were matched together by a matchmaker, but their new romance is put to the test when they realize that they are competing deli owners. Will a Hanukkah miracle keep them together?

Speaking with Times of Israel, Yael shared that she realized just how big Hanukkah has gotten in the United States, only because it has to “compete” with Christmas.

“Hanukkah is big in Israel, of course. It’s always been one of my favorite holidays… but I feel like it has sort of got a lot bigger in the [United] States, because it has to compete with Christmas,” she shared.

Yael also realized that the dreidels that are popular throughout the US actually say something different than in Israel.

According to the outlet, outside of Israel, the toy is printed with the Hebrew letters nun, gimmel, hey and shin – representing the Hebrew phrase “A great miracle happened there,” but in Israel the letters are nun, gimmel, hey and pey: “A great miracle happened here.”

“For the movie, it was a bit tricky, because I had to sing the same prayers, but with a different tune,” Yael added about working on the flick. “It was a challenge throughout the movie to tone down my accent in Hebrew, which sounded pretty funny to me!”

Hanukkah on Rye debuts at 8 p.m. on Hallmark Channel.
