Booked And Busy! Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Move On To New Netflix Docuseries

Just days after their “Harry & Meghan” Netflix docuseries finished airing, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, are gearing up to release another project on the streaming platform. The first volume of their six-part docuseries was released on December 8, and the three final episodes aired on December 15.

The series delved into the lives of the couple as well as their woeful experiences at the hands of the British media. There were also some accusations made, one directed at Prince William, claiming that he screamed at Harry during a family meeting.

The new docuseries “Live to Lead” will likely not garner as much controversy as the former as it features interviews with several prominent people worldwide. It will be released on Netflix on December 31.

According to recent reports, Harry and his wife Markle are gearing up for another Netflix documentary release; however, this will have considerably different content than “Harry & Meghan.” The new Netflix series dubbed “Live to Lead” will be seven episodes long and consist of several interviews with a number of distinguished leaders.

Some of these names include Jacinda Ardern, New Zealand Prime Minister; Bryan Stevenson, social justice attorney; Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the late Supreme Court Justice; Gloria Steinem, and Greta Thunberg, among others.

According to Netflix, the purpose of the series was to give prominent leaders a means to “share messages of courage, compassion, humility, hope, and generosity.” The series is being produced by Blackwell & Ruth as well as The Nelson Mandela Foundation, Cinetic Media, and the Sussexes’ company, Archewell.

Prince Harry And Meghan Markle’s ‘Live To Lead’ Trailer Was Released On Monday

The trailer of the docuseries was released on Monday and had Harry and Markle’s voice narration over the almost two-minute-long preview. The couple will serve as executive producers of the project and may likely make an appearance in it. During the narration, Harry revealed that Nelson Mandela inspired the series.

The Royal said, “This was inspired by Nelson Mandela, who once said, ‘What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived.’” Markle continued, “It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.”

Towards the end of the trailer, Harry reveals that the project was for people “who have made brave choices.” “To fight for change and to become leaders,” Markle added before the Duke concluded with, “And giving inspiration to the rest of us. To live, to lead.”

The Nelson Mandela Foundation Released A Statement

The Nelson Mandela Foundation issued a statement concerning the forthcoming Netflix series, revealing that in the past decades, there has been a leadership crisis at several societal levels worldwide.

The statement (via New York Post) read, “Over the past few decades, we’ve seen a proliferation of destructive leaders, who, for instance, control power by closing borders, disseminating misinformation, and stoking fear of people considered to be ‘other.’ We feel that there is a crisis of leadership at many societal levels globally.”

Sello Hatang, chief executive of the Foundation, disclosed that he hoped “Live to Lead” would help in inspiring a new generation of leaders around the world. He emphasized the need for a leader, especially with the current state of the world due to the COVID-19 pandemic and heightened populism and misinformation.”

He continued, “‘Live to Lead’ was made to contribute towards inspiring better leaders, ones that are committed to ending poverty and inequity and who show the lead in making the just society of Nelson Mandela’s dreams.”

‘Live To Lead’ Was Conceptualized In 2018

Besides his role as producer, Geoff Blackwell also directed the docuseries. He revealed, in a statement, that he got the inspiration for the series in 2018 while working on a book about Mandela with Ruth Hobday. He said that at the time, they had to “absorb” around 27 years of the activist’s personal correspondence as well as his courageous dedication to helping others.

“We were simultaneously confronted by a news cycle relentlessly focused on certain international politicians behaving in precisely the opposite way — shamelessly pursuing their own self-interest, using tactics of division and misinformation to serve power and not the people,” Blackwell disclosed per New York Post.

The glaring contrast drove Blackwell and Hobday to “honor Mandela’s values by surfacing the stories of leaders who distinguish themselves through their moral courage, the conviction of their ideals and values, and their prioritization of others.” They reached out to the Nelson Mandela Foundation, after which they sought out the interviewees for the series.

Blackwell further revealed that interviewing and listening to the stories of these great people have enriched everyone involved and shown them their own capacity to take on leadership roles.
