You don’t have to be a devoted hockey fan to have heard on Tuesday night that Alex Ovechkin scored his 800th NHL goal. What you might not have seen was the celebration his teammates had in store for him after the game.

After becoming just the third player in the history of the league to score 800 goals, the rest of the Washington Capitals celebrated postgame by giving their captain a full-on beer shower.

No fancy brews were injured during the celebration, mind you. According to teammate and fellow countryman Evgeny Kuznetsov, the rest of the Capitals showered Ovechkin with Bud Light because it’s his drink of choice.

Evgeny Kuznetsov on the celebration for Ovechkin in the locker room: “We gave him a little shower with his favorite: Bud Light. Like I said, this moment, you can’t buy those moments. That is the memories.”

The 37-year-old forward reached the milestone while also scoring a hat trick in a 7-3 win over the Blackhawks in Chicago on Tuesday night. Which, of course, led to plenty of on-ice celebrating as well.

Ovechkin is in rare company, joining Gordie Howe and Wayne Gretzky as the only players to have reached the 800-goal mark. No. 8 needs just two more goals to pass Howe (801) goals on the all-time goals-scored list. Gretzky sits atop the list with 894 career NHL goals.
