If there was anyone who “understood the assignment” at the 2022 Met Gala, it had to be Blake Lively, even if her husband Ryan Reynolds, tried to live it down on his social media hours later.
But the fact is, she owned the Met Gala, along with Billie Eilish of course, and rocked the “Gilded Age” theme this year in a transformational outfit that took everyone’s collective breath away. Of course, Ryan Reynolds was the perfect dapper foil to Lively’s old-world glamor, even if she did make his jaw drop for a few seconds.
Blake Lively’s Pink and Orange Arrival
When the married couple, who love to take sweet and funny potshots at each other on social media arrived at the 2022 Met Gala red carpet, it seemed that Blake Lively was wearing a pastel pink and orange ensemble with a pink gold-pink bow. The Atelier Versace gown was studded with multi-colored rhinestones and featured a matching pink train as well.
The couple posed for a few pictures before Lively made her way to the stairs, where the gown’s transformation began.
Since the dress was partly an ode to all that was New York, including the Statue of Liberty, it mimicked the way that copper oxidizes. With the help of the Met Gala crew, Lively flipped the train revealing an aqua side that cascaded down behind her, and the gown transformed into something magical.
Later, Lively told Lala Anthony that her look pays “homage to New York City.” She said, “I’ve patinated. This dress is an homage to New York City and so many of the classic, iconic buildings.” Pointing out the various details, Lively continued to say, “This is detailing from the Empire State Building, some of the drapings from the Statue of Liberty…(and) the constellation from Grand Central Station.”

Ryan Reynolds Had The Cutest Reaction To It All
As the gown began to transform on the Met Gala steps, Reynolds had the sweetest reaction to it, as he smiled, cheered, and even looked in awe at his wife, with whom he shares three daughters: James, 7, Inez, 5, and Betty, 2.
Reynolds himself looked very polished in a classic tuxedo by Ralph Lauren for the theme ‘Gilded Glamour and White Tie.” He was not only seen watching the “Gossip Girl” star in awe, his reaction was caught on camera as well, making Twitter moon over their undying romance.

This year’s gala had an “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” theme and the event was co-chaired by Reynolds and Lively, along with Lin Manuel Miranda and Regina King.

And it came on social media, with Reynolds posting a carousel of pics of them on the red carpet, looking stunning, to his caption, “Blake changing outfits in a split second on the red carpet was a moment I’ll never forget. I recently changed my moisturizer and feel pretty confident it’s more of a slow burn that people will appreciate in time. Like Freaks and Geeks.”
While Mariah Carey send them love, David Beckham quipped: “Looking good mate ❤️ you scrub up very well ❤️”
