England fans have bemoaned Mason Mount's fine finish during Chelsea's Premier League return against Bournemouth – because he couldn't do the same at the World Cup.

Despite winning a penalty in the quarter-final against France, the 23-year-old was not at his influential best when given chances by Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate.

On watching Mount scoring a fine finish from outside the box against the Cherries to make it 2-0 at Stamford Bridge after Kai Havertz' opener, England fans had questions.

One fan wrote: "I’m convinced there’s an A* Mason Mount that plays for Chelsea, and a BTEC Mason Mount that plays for England"

A second said: "Chelsea Mount and England Mount are two different things bro"

A third then added: "Mason Mount doing that for Chelsea but played league 2 level football for England."

As a fourth concluded: "Mount cares more about Chelsea than England."

Mount has made 36 appearances for England since his 2019 debut, scoring on five occasions. Having scored 11 Premier League goals across 32 outings last season.

The 23-year-old started against both Iran and the United States at the World Cup, coming off the bench against both Senegal and France.

Following the goal on his return to club action, former England international Sue Smith was full of praise on Amazon Prime Video.

She said: "As the ball comes into Mason Mount, what a lovely finish that is.

"Mount just uses the defender to curl it round into that bottom corner. Brilliant strike, thoroughly deserved for Chelsea."
