Edouard Michut summed up his first start for Sunderland with a hilarious three word message.

The Paris Saint-Germain loanee, 19, was called up by Tony Mowbray to replace Patrick Roberts in midfield. He helped the Black Cats to a 4-1 victory at the DW Stadium as they climbed to fourth place in the Championship.

But the French youngster had another tough introduction to English football in his fifth appearance of the season, learning the hard way about just how physically gruelling the Championship can be.

He took to Twitter after the game to write: “Thank you fans for support.” Michut then posted a photo to Instagram showing some nasty scratches down his leg with the tongue-in-cheek caption, “Welcome to England.”

The teenager joined Sunderland on a season-long loan in August, having picked up a Ligue 1 winners’ medal last season, where he featured five times alongside bonafide stars like Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi.

And despite his start in England being hampered by injury niggles, Mowbray has full confidence in Michut after seeing enough to recognise his ability.

The Sunderland head coach previously said: "He's a talent, a real talent. It's frustrating that he hasn't been able to stay fit and get on the pitch.

“He missed pre-season through an injury, I think, and he's just picked up a few knocks and niggles and it has prevented him finding some consistency.

"But he's a very talented player, he's a different type of midfielder – he can carry the ball, he's got a wonderful weight of pass. He needs to understand the physicality of the Championship, of course, but I think he will be a real competitive edge for the midfield players when he is fit and finds some robustness to stay fit.”
