Marcus Rashford dropped for Man Utd clash due to ‘internal disciplinary’ reasons

Marcus Rashford has been dropped from the Manchester United starting XI due to a disciplinary problem.

Rashford, who scored and assisted against Nottingham Forest earlier this week, has been named on the United bench for their away match at Wolves, with manager Erik ten Hag telling BT Sport it was because of "internal disciplinary" reasons.

"No [details]. Our rules. Now focus on the game. He is in very good form and no-one can play all the games," Ten Hag added. Alejandro Garnacho has been brought in to replace Rashford in the only change to the team which beat Forest 3-0 on Tuesday (December 27).

Anthony Martial has kept his place up top while Luke Shaw will play at centre-back again in the absence of World Cup winner Lisandro Martinez.

Shaw has been favoured over natural fits Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof, with Ten Hag explaining: "Harry has to recover from illness and there are many games to come. But tactical wise, this fits really good for the Wolves game, both when defending and in offence."

The Dutchman has shown once again he's not afraid to lay down the law on his Red Devils stars, having repeatedly butted heads with Cristiano Ronaldo earlier this season before his acrimonious exit last month.

England forward Rashford has been enjoying a renaissance of form for both club and country having scored three goals at the World Cup and netted twice since his return from Qatar.

But it seems the behind-the-scenes issues which former interim manager Ralf Rangnick complained of last season are still plaguing United.

Reacting to the news of Rashford's benching, United legend Paul Scholes said: "It’s difficult to know the truth really, internal disciplinary, you think lateness.

"But I love him (Ten Hag), the way he’s honest, he’s got the lad in the form of his life who will be a big part today he’d be coming into this game expecting to score goals and win the game. To stand by his guns, we’ll see if it’s a wise decision."
