The MCU has a bountiful supply of movies and TV shows coming over the next few years – 29 at the time of writing! Despite COVID-19 delays, 2021 saw the Marvel Cinematic Universe conquer new territory, with the streaming service Disney+ releasing several hit shows starring MCU characters, and the MCU’s latest news being the hot topic in online fan forums. This trend is set to continue, with Marvel characters appearing on both the big and small screens, and new MCU announcements being just around the corner. Here are all of the most crucial of Marvel’s movie announcements and updates as MCU’s Phase 4 rolls out.

2020 was a very strange year for Marvel. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, no new releases were forthcoming, with Black Widow, Eternals, WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier all pushed back. Without a proper SDCC or D23, there was also nowhere for Kevin Feige to flaunt his wares either, but that doesn’t mean the House of Ideas hasn’t been hard at work, continuing productions, developing projects and getting in position for a scale of releases that makes the MCU Phases 1 to 3 look tiny in comparison.

The Marvel machine has since lurched back into life, hitting audiences on dual fronts via movie theaters and on Disney+, and this means the MCU marketing train has kicked up a few gears also. To get on top of it all, here’s a total overview of all Marvel news concerning the franchise’s recently released and upcoming movies and TV shows.

Doctor Strange 2 Casts Xochitl Gomez As America Chavez

The Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness cast brings Scarlet Witch into an ensemble that includes returners Chiwetel Ejiofor as Mordo, Benedict Wong as Wong, and Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer. The big new Marvel news for Strange’s sequel is the casting of Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez. Another Young Avenger for Phase 4, Miss America is a superhero with the usual set of powers in addition to inter-dimensional travel, making her key to the universe-hopping chaos in Sam Raimi’s film.

Ms. Marvel First Footage

Marvel updates confirmed Iman Vellani is playing Kamala Khan a.k.a. Ms. Marvel, the teenage Pakistani hero who was inspired by Carol Danvers. A short sizzle reel discussed the impact of the comic character, explained how Vellani was cast, touched on the show’s creative talent, and featured footage of Kamala both at home and idolizing Captain Marvel. What Ms. Marvel’s live-action costume looks like has yet to be revealed in official Marvel news, but has been glimpsed in leaked set photos and concept art, and looks to be a relatively faithful adaptation of her comic outfit.

Captain Marvel 2 Brings Back Ms. Marvel And Monica Rambeau

Nia DaCosta’s Captain Marvel 2 brings back Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, but she won’t be alone. As expected, Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel and Teyonah Parris’ adult Monica Rambeau (who debuted in WandaVision) will be part of the sequel. Though WandaVision offered glimpses into what Monica Rambeau could do, Captain Marvel 2 could dig deeper into just how much power Rambeau truly controls, and how it could change how Earth deals with Avengers-level threats.

She-Hulk Brings Back Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner and Tim Roth’s Abomination

Tatiana Maslany’s casting as Jennifer Walters a.k.a. She-Hulk has been confirmed, but the big Marvel news is that the Disney+ legal drama will be bringing back Mark Ruffalo as Walter’s cousin Bruce Banner and Tim Roth as Abomination, who debuted all the way back in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. Kevin Feige has also teased the possibility of other Marvel characters joining the show, and given the legal setting, that feels like a pointed nod towards Daredevil. Incidentally, Charlie Cox is rumored to be among the various Spider-Man: No Way Home names after first playing the Marvel hero on Netflix.

Oscar Isaac As Moon Knight Confirmed (& Ethan Hawke’s Villain)

Oscar Issac was rumored to star as Marc Spector in Moon Knight as early as late 2020, but the Marvel news arrived officially in May 2021. The Disney+ series is currently scheduled for the latter half of 2022, and will represent the harder edge of the MCU, playing on the vigilante’s violent comic book persona. Also included among the cast is Ethan Hawke, who’s tapped as Moon Knight‘s villain.

Secret Invasion TV Show Starring Nick Fury Announced

Ever since the Skrulls were introduced to the MCU in Captain Marvel, fans have been waiting for Secret Invasion – the comic story where the green alien shapeshifters infiltrate Earth. That’s finally happening on Disney+ with a Secret Invasion TV series, starring Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelson as Talos. Although plot details are light, Kevin Feige has hinted previously that Secret Invasion involves a rogue pack of Skrulls, which makes sense given the aliens were ultimately heroes in Captain Marvel. Secret Invasion was further set up by the post-credits scenes of both Spider-Man: Far From Home, and WandaVision.

Ironheart TV Show Starring Dominique Thorne As Riri Williams

The first of two Iron Man pseudo-sequel shows, Ironheart will follow teenage genius Riri Williams as she becomes the inheritor to Tony Stark’s armored crown. Dominique Thorne has already been cast as Riri, who was only introduced to Marvel Comics in 2015, but other Marvel updates on Ironheart remain scant for now.

War Machine Leads Armor Wars TV Show

The MCU’s second Iron Man-related series on Disney+ is Armor Wars, which stars Don Cheadle as James Rhodes a.k.a. War Machine. The description provided by Feige claims that Armor Wars explores “what happens when his [Tony Stark’s] tech falls into the wrong hands,” which can be said of many MCU stories.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special

After 2020’s The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special, Marvel is getting in on the festive fun. The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will be directed by James Gunn for Disney+, filmed in conjunction with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and will release in Winter 2022 ahead of the threequel.

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 Gets 2023 Release Date

After repeated delays due to James Gunn’s firing/rehiring and the COVID-19 pandemic, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 finally has a release date. The (likely) closing chapter of Gunn’s trilogy is set to premiere on May 5, 2023 – a full six years after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in 2017.

I Am Groot TV Show Brings Back Baby Groot

Marvel news reveals another Guardians of the Galaxy release on Disney+, this time a series of shorts. I Am Groot looks back to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2‘s Baby Groot, and will see the tiny wooden terror in a series of misadventures.

Christian Bale is Gorr the God Butcher In Thor: Love And Thunder

Former Batman Christian Bale will be joining the MCU in Thor: Love & Thunder, and it’s confirmed he’ll be playing villain Gorr the God Butcher. The God of Thunder’s new MCU solo movie is already packed, with Chris Hemsworth joined by the entire Guardians of the Galaxy main cast, Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie and Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster as Mighty Thor. If Taika Waititi is staying close to the comics, Gorr will be a considerable challenge nevertheless.

Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania New Cassie Lang, Villain Is Kang The Conqueror

Ant-Man 3 will be going large, with a new title that promises even more Quantum Realm action: Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania. Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer are all returning, joined by Kathryn Newton as a recast Cassie Lang (the third actor to play the role), who will presumably become Stature. They’re fighting against multiverse-hopping villain Kang the Conqueror, played by Jonathan Majors.

Black Panther 2 Won’t Recast Chadwick Boseman

Following the tragic death of Chadwick Boseman in August 2020, Marvel won’t be recasting Black Panther for the in-development sequel. Ryan Coogler is returning to write and direct Black Panther 2, which Feige claims will explore the world of Wakanda so beautifully established in the first film.

MCU Fantastic Four Movie Officially Happening From Spider-Man Director

After Disney acquired the studio in 2019, Marvel now owns the rights to all characters previously sold to Fox, and the first movie to explore those tantalizing properties will be Fantastic Four. Marvel’s First Family are coming to the MCU in a film from director Jon Watts, who has overseen all three Tom Holland Spider-Man entries.

Deadpool 3 Is Happening (As An MCU Movie)

Deadpool fans got to enjoy two-and-a-half Fox movies starring Ryan Reynolds as the Merc with a Mouth, before the studio was purchased by Disney, and Fox’s contingent of Marvel characters became MCU stars in waiting. Fans questioned how Deadpool’s less-than-family-friendly approach would be handled by the Mouse House, and Marvel news neglected to mention Deadpool 3 until January 2021, when Kevin Feige confirmed a Reynolds threequel that would be set within existing MCU continuity. Deadpool’s habit of breaking the fourth wall makes a crossover easier than for other Fox acquisitions, but questions over the film’s R-rated nature remain.

A New Wakanda TV Series Is Coming

Black Panther fans were already looking forward to revisiting Wakanda on the big screen, but the MCU will also be returning to African climes on Disney+. In February 2021, Marvel unveiled plans for a brand new TV series based in Wakanda, developed by the director of both Black Panther movies, Ryan Coogler. The project is both without title and release date as per the latest Marvel updates, but reports suggest Danai Gurira’s Okoye could be the focus.

Hawkeye Echo Spinoff Show In Development

Alaqua Cox made her MCU debut as Echo in the Disney+ Hawkeye series. Marvel has now confirmed Cox will front her own Echo spinoff series, which is currently in the early stages of development.

Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman & More Join Secret Invasion

April 2021 saw Secret Invasion‘s already impressive cast expanded with some seriously big names – albeit all in undisclosed roles for now. Joining the Skrull shenanigans are Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones‘ Daenerys Targaryen), Oscar-winner Olivia Colman, and Kingsley Ben-Adir (Peaky Blinders, The OA). Other new additions include Christopher McDonald and Killian Scott.

Russell Crowe Plays Zeus In Thor: Love & Thunder

With Hemsworth, Bale, Portman, and Thompson already in place alongside the Guardians of the Galaxy gang, Thor: Love & Thunder already had a strong lineup, but fresh Marvel updates have unveiled more exciting names joining the God of Thunder in 2022. Melissa McCarthy will portray “Hela” in another stage play skit (in the vein of Thor: Ragnarok), with Matt Damon, Sam Neill and Luke Hemsworth all reprising their previous parts. The most intriguing casting, however, is Russell Crowe, who’ll play Greek god Zeus. Despite wielding power comparable to Odin in the Marvel comic books, Zeus is only expected to make a brief cameo in Thor: Love & Thunder, likely as part of Gorr The God Butcher’s divine killing spree.

Black Panther 2 & Captain Marvel 2 Get Official Titles

In May 2021, new Marvel updates confirmed official titles for both Black Panther 2 and Captain Marvel 2. The former will release under the name Wakanda Forever, while the latter goes by The Marvels – a reference to the superhero triumvirate of Carol Danvers, Kamala Khan and Monica Rambeau.

Jameela Jamil Joins She-Hulk As Titania

Joining Tatiana Maslany, Mark Ruffalo and Tim Roth on Disney+’s She-Hulk is Jameela Jamil. The former DJ rose to acting prominence via The Good Place, and will make her MCU bow as Titania. A moniker used by several comic characters, Titania is most closely associated with Mary MacPherran – a shy, unassuming young woman granted superpowers via radiation, similar to the Bruce Banner. Titania developed into a fierce rival of Jennifer Walters in Marvel’s comic lore, and will seemingly serve as She Hulk‘s main villain.

Peter Parker’s Strange Devices In Spider-Man: No Way Home

With Tom Holland remaining unusually tight-lipped, it fell to the ever-reliable merchandise leaks to provide crucial plot details for Spider-Man: No Way Home. The selection of action figures and toys set to drop in conjunction with Spider-Man: No Way Home show Spidey wearing web-shooters enhanced by Doctor Strange’s magic. Presumably, these can allow the web-slinger to sling his webs between dimensions, rather than just between skyscrapers. These additions to Peter’s arachnid arsenal support the widely-accepted theory that multiple iterations of Spider-Man will feature.

Wakanda Forever Casts Michaela Coel

It’s still not clear which direction Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will take after the tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman. Familiar faces from the first movie will return (including Nakia, Okoye, and Shuri), but the first major new addition to the cast is I May Destroy You‘s Michaela Coel, according to recent Marvel updates. Currently among the front-runners to play Doctor Who‘s Fourteenth Doctor, Coel is rumored to be portraying Storm, potentially setting up the MCU’s mutant future.

Kang Introduced In The MCU Before Ant-Man 3

Loki season 1 had Kang the Conqueror’s fingerprints all over it, from an early mention of the villain’s comic book time period, to a suspiciously Kang-like statue among the trio of Time-Keepers. Sure enough, Jonathan Majors arrived earlier than expected, having previously been confirmed for Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania – though he technically wasn’t playing Kang. Loki introduced Majors as He Who Remains – a variant of a scientist who created the Sacred Timeline after his other selves began conquering the multiverse. Sylvie’s decision to kill the mysterious guardian resulted in numerous split realities and, as confirmed by the new statue in TVA HQ, the rise of Kang the Conqueror proper.

Loki Getting A Second Season

Loki‘s narrative will continue through both Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Ant-Man & The Wasp Quantumania, but the God of Mischief will also be getting a second season of his own on Disney+. With WandaVision and Falcon & The Winter Soldier both seemingly limited to a single run, Tom Hiddleston is the first MCU star to be granted a sophomore streaming season.

Scarlett Johansson & Disney’s Legal Issues & Resolution

In a developing story that seems to be getting messier by the week, Scarlett Johansson is taking legal action against Disney due to Black Widow‘s joint streaming/theatrical release. Johansson’s side states that the actress was promised a regular, theatrical release, and a portion of her earnings was tied to box office performance. The lawsuit claims Disney ignored efforts to renegotiate contracts in the wake of COVID-19, but with each side openly contradicting the other, the situation is, in the wise words of Benedict Cumberbatch, “a bit of a mess.” In late September, news broke claiming both sides had reached a settlement outside of court, with Johansson reportedly landing $40 million to be paid in installments as compensation.

Bassam Tariq Announced To Direct Blade

Somewhere on the horizon of MCU Phase 4 is a reboot of Blade, with the titular Daywalker to be played by Mahershala Ali. Initially confirmed in 2019, Blade Marvel updates have been rarer than a vegetarian vampire, with only Stacy Amma Osei-Kuffour attached as a writer. Bassam Tariq has now been confirmed as Blade‘s director. Though not yet a household name, Tariq recently earned plaudits for Mogul Mowgli starring Riz Ahmed. Tariq has already described his excitement ahead of joining the MCU director ranks, and promises a different take on the iconic character.

Ironheart Will Appear In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

As mentioned above, Dominique Thorne will portray Riri Williams/Ironheart in her own MCU solo series on Disney+. Before that, however, she’ll be introduced in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. An August 2021 Marvel news announcement confirmed Thorne’s involvement in the 2022 movie, with Riri Williams attending MIT as a young prodigy. Her association with Black Panther could be the Wakandan Outreach program established at the end of the first movie. Attending the famous school and associating with the likes of Shuri could be how Riri builds her Ironheart armor, setting up Thorne as an established superhero ahead of her arrival on Disney+.

Sam Wilson’s Captain America 4 Is Official

Rumors of Captain America 4 starring Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson arose immediately after Falcon & The Winter Soldier‘s finale aired, but with nothing official, it wasn’t clear whether Marvel would be pursuing a big-screen outing for its brand new Cap. In August 2021, however, news emerged of Mackie signing on the red, white and blue line, and the actor was congratulated by his on-screen BFF, Sebastian Stan. Release date, director, plot, cast, title, and virtually everything else remain unknown at present.

Spider-Man: No Way Home Trailer Confirms Doc Ock, Green Goblin & More

Anticipation for the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer hit fever pitch, as fans wondered when (if ever) the footage would arrive. After some ne’er-do-well leaked the trailer online, Marvel relented and dropped the first official glimpse of Spider-Man: No Way Home. The multiverse shenanigans begin when Peter Parker asks Doctor Strange to cast a spell to make the world forget his secret identity, but Spidey interferes with the casting and triggers an inter-dimensional incident. The trailer confirms Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus and Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin from the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy, and gives brief hints of Jamie Foxx’s Electro, Sandman and Lizard.

Fans suspected Matt Murdock’s forearms could be seen, though this has since been debunked by Daredevil‘s Charlie Cox himself. Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield remain conspicuous by their absence. Fortunately, the leak didn’t hurt Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s success, with the trailer surpassing the views record held by Avengers: Endgame.

Shang-Chi Proves Box Office Isn’t Dead

After Black Widow‘s hybrid release, Marvel went old-school with Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings, testing the box office waters with a theatrical exclusive rollout. Faced with a sink or swim situation, Shang-Chi broke the existing Labor Day weekend record set by Rob Zombie’s Halloween remake. Though Shang-Chi will inevitably be one of the lowest-performing MCU movies in Marvel’s catalog, the haul is hugely encouraging under the current circumstances, and reviews have also been full of praise.

Agatha Harkness Gets Her Own Spinoff Series

Kathryn Hahn made a huge splash as Agatha Harkness in WandaVision, lighting up Disney+ with her bewitching charm and catchy-as-hell theme song. Kevin Feige had already teased more to come from Agatha, and in early October 2021, Marvel updates began claiming Hahn had signed for a Disney+ spinoff, as well as future MCU movie appearances. WandaVision head writer Jac Schaeffer is slated to helm the project. Agatha: House of Harkness was confirmed alongside a fresh new logo on Disney+ Day 2021.

Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness Release Date Changes

October 2021 brought a huge swathe of changes to Marvel’s movie plans for 2022 and 2023. Kicking off the delays is Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness shifting from March 25, 2022 to May 6, 2022, opening the MCU’s summer theatrical festivities. According to Kevin Feige, this delay isn’t due to concerns over pandemic theatrical performance, but “production shifts and changes.” That vague wording could mean anything from requiring additional time for reshoots and post-production, to COVID restrictions having a knock-on effect upon scheduling. The change means fans must endure a 6-month wait between Spider-Man: No Way Home (released December 17, 2021) and Doctor Strange 2.

Thor: Love & Thunder Delayed

Of course, when one Marvel movie falls back, the other superhero dominoes soon follow suit. Thor: Love & Thunder initially occupied Disney’s May 6, 2022 slot, but as a result of Feige’s aforementioned slot-shifting, Thor: Love & Thunder has given way to Doctor Strange 2 and settled into the July 8, 2022 position instead. Director, Taika Waititi, recently revealed post-production was set to conclude in February 2022, but he’ll now have extra time to perfect the sheen of Chris Hemsworth’s glorious golden locks. The latest Marvel news isn’t clear on whether Thor 4‘s delay is a result of Waititi’s own production, a knock-on from another film needing more time, or a bit of both.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever New Release Date

Next up is Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which the new Marvel updates confirm has fallen back to November 11, 2022. Ryan Coogler’s MCU sequel is currently in the latter stages of filming and was initially set for the July 8, 2022 slot now playing home to Thor: Love & Thunder. This somewhat changes the upcoming battle between Marvel and DC. Previously, The Marvels was set to go head-to-head- against the DCEU’s The Flash movie starring Ezra Miller, Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck. Given the mighty box office performance of 2018’s Black Panther, the alteration may not come as welcome news for DC.

The Marvels Gets New Release Date

And with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever kicking Carol Danvers from Marvel’s final 2022 spot, The Marvels will now premiere in theaters February 17, opening the MCU’s 2023 slate of superhero cinema. This means fans have longer to wait before Monica Rambeau’s WandaVision story is resolved, since the series aired on Disney+ back in early 2021. The Marvels‘ delay could also have consequences for Secret Invasion and Ms. Marvel. The upcoming Disney+ shows were previously expected to land in 2022, but WandaVision‘s post-credits suggested Teyonah Parris’ Monica could feature in Secret Invasion, while Ms. Marvel stars Imam Vellani as Kamala Khan, potentially making both dependent on Captain Marvel 2.

Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania Date Changes; GOTG3 Stays

The final chapter to Marvel’s updates sees Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania vacate its February slot and take a short trip through the Quantum Realm to land in July 28, 2023. Unlike the other changes, this means a change in the MCU’s Phase 4 ordering. Scott Lang leapfrogs Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which has kept its May 5, 2023 date. A mystery Marvel Phase 4 movie then moves to November 3, 2023. There’s now a longer wait before MCU fans get a resolution to Loki‘s Kang tease, but the delays might be even more ominous for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. James Gunn’s threequel being the only Marvel 2022/2023 movie to stay in its place strongly suggests Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be less connected to the wider MCU.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage Connects The MCU & Sony Villain Universe

Previously, the MCU sat separately from Sony’s Marvel output, and though Morbius was first to tease a link by bringing back Michael Keaton’s Vulture, Venom: Let There Be Carnage cements the deal. The post-credits sequence of Andy Serkis’ sequel sees Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock and his inner symbiote mysteriously transported to an MCU-esque world where Tom Holland is a wanted Spider-Man. Venom licks the web-crawler’s image, potentially setting up a meeting in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Will Poulter Cast As Guardians Of The Galaxy 3’s Adam Warlock

MCU fans have been waiting for Adam Warlock since the famous Marvel comic character was set up by Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2‘s post-credits sequence. Half-expected to show up during the fight against Thanos, Adam Warlock’s debut is now confirmed for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and will be portrayed by Will Poulter. Famous for We’re The Millers, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, and The Maze Runner, Poulter’s casting has been well-received, despite arguably being an unorthodox choice.

Morbius Trailer Mixes Up All 4 Spider-Man Worlds

Sony released the first Morbius trailer way back in January 2020, but Jared Leto’s vampire was kept in his casket by the pandemic. After much delay, a second Morbius trailer dropped in November 2021, stuffed with Easter eggs that connect the MCU, the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy, The Amazing Spider-Man, and Sony’s villain universe. The “murderer”graffiti depicts Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, the OSCORP logo and Rhino headline allude toward Andrew Garfield, Michael Keaton’s Vulture is an MCU character, and Morbius himself directly references Venom. Quite how Morbius marries together these Easter eggs remains to be seen.

Eternals Debuts Harry Styles As Eros, Thanos’ Brother

Though Marvel news and rumors revealed Harry Styles’ MCU casting ahead of time, the secret is now out thanks to an official poster featuring the former One Direction singer and UK X Factor contestant. An Eternals‘ post-credits scene unites members of the titular group with Harry Styles’ Eros – a fellow Eternal with the awkward distinction of having Thanos as a brother. Marvel clearly has big plans for Styles and Eros, possibly in Eternals 2.

Black Panther 2 Production Shuts Down Until 2022

Filming on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever began in June 2021, but Letitia Wright (the MCU’s Shuri actress) sustained an undisclosed injury, and has been recuperating in London since September. Ryan Coogler continued to direct footage that didn’t require Wright’s presence, but Black Panther 2 has now paused production to wait for the actress’ return, projected to resume in January 2022. Another stumbling block may present itself if Wright is unable to satisfy US vaccination status requirements in order to travel from the UK to Atlanta, where Black Panther 2 is filming.

Spider-Man: No Way Home Second Trailer Reveals Villains From All Eras

A second Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer – just as highly anticipated as the first – landed in November 2022, and offered more tantalizing footage of the multiverse movie mashup. In addition to more of Alfred Molina’s returning Doc Ock, Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s second trailer offered closer looks at Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin, Jamie Foxx’s Electro, Lizard, Sandman, and a mystery alternate Goblin villain. Doctor Strange confirmed these villains all should have been killed by Spider-Man in their own universes, and Zendaya’s MJ is seen falling in a manner eerily similar to Gwen Stacy. Though Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield remain conspicuous by their absence, fans immediately noticed scenes where characters had seemingly been erased.

First Look At Tatiana Maslany & Mark Ruffalo In She-Hulk

Disney+ Day brought a multiverse full of Marvel updates and MCU news, and the first glimpse at She-Hulk was among the highlights. The brief teaser unites Tatiana Maslany’s Jennifer Walters and Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner, as the latter helps his cousin acclimatize to her green transformation. The footage also showed the duo breaking the fourth wall, and a fresh She-Hulk logo debuted as part of the festivities too.

 Oscar Isaac Stars In Brutal Moon Knight Teaser

Disney+ Day also aired initial footage of Oscar Isaac beating up bad guys in his upcoming Moon Knight series. The teaser left little doubt that Moon Knight would be the most hard-hitting MCU release yet, whilst offering a glimpse of Isaac’s outfit and a snippet of his accent as Marc Spector.

Ms. Marvel Footage Released For Disney+ Day

The last in a trio of Disney+ Day MCU teasers belongs to Ms. Marvel. Focusing squarely on Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan, the future Ms. Marvel is shown attending an Avengers fan event dressed in Captain Marvel cosplay, confirming her idolization of Carol Danvers will carry over from the comic books. Disney+ Day’s Ms. Marvel footage fleetingly reveals the title character’s powers and gives hints of her superhero costume too.

Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury Is Older In Secret Invasion Image

No footage for Secret Invasion, sadly, but Disney+ Day’s Marvel updates did cough up a first official image from the upcoming series, revealing Samuel L. Jackson as a noticeably older Nick Fury sans eyepatch. Fury’s gray appearance could indicate a Secret Invasion time skip, but might also suggest the former SHIELD director has been a Skrull much longer than MCU fans believed…

New Logos For Ironheart, Secret Invasion, Echo & More

For MCU shows still some way out, Disney + Day sprinkled some updated logos on top of the paywall fun. Aside from the aforementioned She-Hulk image, Ironheart received a fresh logo that pays tribute to Tony Stark with a rudimentary iron heart in the style of Iron Man’s first costume. Secret Invasion‘s updated logo incorporates the green and purple coloring associated with Skrulls, and official announcements for Echo and Agatha: House of Harkness also came with snazzy new-look branding.

Spider-Man: Freshman Year & X-Men ’97 Animated Series Confirmed

In the wake of What If…? season 1’s success, Disney+ Day’s Marvel updates included a slew of animated MCU project announcements. Spider-Man: Freshman Year is set within the MCU and follows Tom Holland’s Spider-Man during his earlier years – essentially a prequel to his cameo in Captain America: Civil War. Jeff Trammel will executive produce. Not strictly an MCU release but exciting for fans nonetheless is X-Men ’97, which picks up the baton of the classic 1990s cartoon. Airing in 2023 and overseen by Beau DeMayo, get ready to hum that theme tune all over again.

Marvel Zombies Happening As A What If…? Spinoff

The third new animated project joining Marvel’s upcoming roster of Disney+ releases is a spinoff from What If…? – Marvel Zombies. The fifth episode of What If…? season 1 debuted Marvel’s zombie apocalypse, where only a handful of heroes remained unbitten thanks to Ant-Man and Wasp’s botched Quantum Realm mission. The potential in a full series was plain to see, and Marvel obviously agreed, putting Bryan Andrews in charge of directing and executive producing.

Scarlett Johansson Returning To MCU In Mystery Role

As detailed above, Scarlett Johansson’s relationship with Disney has been strained of late, largely thanks to a Hollywood-shifting lawsuit over Black Widow‘s streaming profits. By all accounts, Johansson’s issue was with Mickey Mouse rather than Kevin Feige, so it’s not entirely surprising to hear Feige teasing a future collaboration between the Natasha Romanov actress and Marvel Studios. Johansson’s mystery Marvel project won’t involve Nat, and she’ll probably be sitting behind the camera, but the MCU possibilities are exciting nonetheless.

Sony & Marvel Working On MCU Spider-Man 4, 5 & 6

Given how fractious Marvel’s working relationship with Sony has been since their joint custody of Tom Holland came into effect, many MCU fans were concerned Spider-Man: No Way Home would mark Tom Holland’s final time pulling on red and black spandex. Those fears have now been allayed by Sony’s own Amy Pascal, who confirmed in late November 2021 that the Sony-Marvel partnership would continue into the future. According to the producer, Spider-Man: No Way Home marks the ending of one MCU trilogy for the web-crawler, but Sony & Marvel are committed to another, meaning Spider-Man 4, 5 & 6 are all incoming, and Tom Holland is hanging around a while longer. At this early stage, there’s no word yet on titles or release dates.

Spider-Man No Way Home Becomes Sixth-Highest Grossing Movie Ever

Spider-Man: No Way Home has hit $1.69 billion in the global box office, which makes the third MCU Spider-Man movie the sixth highest grossing movie in history. In 2022, Spider-Man: No Way Home beat out Jurassic World and The Lion King, which have respectively grossed $1.67 billion and $1.61 billion, for the number six spot. Much of this is thanks to Spider-Man: No Way Home’s cast, which, apart from Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, also includes Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s versions of Peter Parker, as well as their respective villains.

Professor X’s MCU Debut Revealed In Doctor Strange 2 Trailer

The Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness trailer teased the first appearance of Patrick Stewart’s Professor X into the MCU, and it was confirmed in the actual movie, which places the powerful telepath in the role of the leader of Doctor Strange 2‘s Illuminati. In fact, the movie also serves as the MCU outing for even more Marvel Comics characters, including Blackbolt, Captain Carter, and Earth-838’s Captain Marvel. That said, although Professor X features quite prominently, it remains unclear whether or not this alternate universe is also home to the X-Men (or their enemies), who still haven’t made their MCU debut.

Thor: Love and Thunder‘s teaser trailer revealed Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor, played by Natalie Portman, who will be starring alongside Chris Hemsworth in the God of Thunder’s fourth MCU movie. Foster was Thor’s love interest in his previous solo films. It will be interesting to see how Foster and Thor’s dynamic will evolve now that both of them wield the power of the Asgardian Gods.

Hawkeye Finale Introduces Kingpin to The MCU

Hawkeye‘s last episode sees the MCU debut of Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin, the main antagonist of the Marvel Netflix series Daredevil, although Kingpin’s appearance doesn’t necessarily confirm that the various Marvel Netflix seasons are canon to the MCU. Notably, Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock appears in Spider-Man: No Way Home as Peter Parker’s lawyer, and is also rumored to appear in She-Hulk. When the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen is away, who knows what the Kingpin could be up to, and where else he could appear in Phase 4 of the MCU.

Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman Is Black Knight In Eternals’ Post-Credit Scene

The post-credits scene from Eternals sees Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman touching the Ebony Blade and assuming the role of the MCU’s Black Knight with a little help from Blade. Curiously, apart from Eternals, this connects Whitman to Thor, as the Ebony Blade is essentially the “anti-Mjolnir,” implying that he could soon become the dark mirror to the God of Thunder.

Blade Makes His MCU Debut In The Eternals

Eternals‘ Black Knight introduction also came with another shocking addition to the MCU: Blade, also known as the Day Walker. However, only the voice of Mahershala Ali’s Blade is featured in Eternals‘ post-credits scene. This was the first major setup for the MCU’s Blade reboot, which is confirmed to be in the works. That said, Marvel has been quiet about when Blade will be released, who else will be in the cast, or what the story will be.

Rumored MCU Projects – Nova, Thunderbolts & More

Though most MCU projects on Kevin Feige’s slate have been confirmed by an official source, others remain within the realm of report and rumor… for now. In October 2021, outlets claimed a Nova movie is currently scheduled to begin production in 2023, picking up from the off-screen destruction of the Nova Corps, who debuted in Guardians of the Galaxy. According to those same reports, Thunderbolts is also in the pipeline for 2023, featuring the likes of Bucky Barnes, Baron Zemo and Thunderbolt Ross as part of a more villainous super-team. They’re not the only new Avengers-esque collective potentially coming to the MCU, as the introductions of Kate Bishop, Yelena Belova, Ironheart, and Ms. Marvel have rumors of a Young Avengers movie swirling. Shang-Chi & The Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu has expressed a desire to make Shang-Chi 2, and given how Eternals ended, many are expecting Eternals 2 as another future follow-up. Check back for when Marvel updates the status of these exciting MCU projects.
