The Flash S8 Episode 17 Trailer Teases New Speedster & [SPOILER] Return

While a significant Arrowverse character is making their return in The Flash season 8, episode 17, the trailer for the next episode also teases a new speedster. The Flash season 8 is getting closer to its end after a very emotional rollercoaster of a year. Since the show’s return in 2022, The Flash tackled one of its darkest villains of all time when the Arrowverse drama brought in Deathstorm for the latest graphic novel storyline. While doing a loose take on DC’s Blackest Night, Team Flash took down Deathstorm while sadly losing one of their own in the process.

As The Flash season 8 has only a handful of episodes remaining, one of the big unfinished storylines is Iris West-Allen’s time-sickness. Currently, Candice Patton’s character has gone missing while Barry Allen and the team try to track her down after she vanished in episode 14, “Funeral for a Friend.” While Iris’ time-sickness will be cured once and for all, The Flash season 8 still has one mysterious Big Bad to deal with before all is said in done. However, it appears that the next episode of The Flash season 8 will tackle the arrival of another speedster and feature a blast from the past.

Following the airing of this week’s episode, “The Curious Case of Bartholomew Allen,” The CW (via TV Promos) release a trailer for The Flash season 8, episode 17. Titled “Keep It Dark,” episode 17 will be airing on Wednesday, June 8, as there won’t be a new episode on June 1. The trailer for “Keep It Dark” previews Barry investigating a new speedster that is running around in Central City. “Keep It Dark,” which was written by Kristen Kim and Emily Palizzi, was directed by The Flash’s own Danielle Panabaker, who plays Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost. This marks Panabaker’s fourth directing role on The Flash after helming “Godspeed,” “Licence to Elongate,” and “Rayo de Luz.” According to Panabaker in recent interviews, “Keep It Dark” will focus a lot on the Team Flash member Allegra Garcia, while also serving as a bottle episode before the final arc fully kicks in.

Whoever the new speedster is, Barry will also be dealing with Reverse-Flash once again, as Tom Cavanagh makes his first appearance since The Flash’s Armageddon in 2021. Since the last time he was on The Flash, Eobard Thawne lost his speed, which makes his latest appearance a crucial one. More than likely, this will be the start of Eobard somehow finding a way to get his powers back, as Reverse-Flash is destined to always go up against the Scarlet Speedster. Whether or not Eobard will be the main foe, or at least one of them by the time The Flash season 8 finale airs, remains to be seen.
