Iggy Pop rose to fame after leaving his mark on the New York punk scene. He was frequently found performing on stage at the legendary CBGBs at the time; the legendary venue would close in 2006 after nearly four decades in business.

He would get his start as a member of the founding punk band The Stooges, before embarking on a solo career.

The ‘Godfather of Punk’ would release his first solo album in 1977. He would quickly follow it up with his legendary “Lust For Life” the same year.

Iggy Pop’s music has always resonated with his fans, but he does not care if it has the same effect on any musical institution.

The punk legend would later name one of his records “Blah Blah Blah” in the eighties. He definitely has more to say when it comes to his feelings about the Grammy’s!

He was honest in detailing how he avoided the institution for a long time before finally surrendering to accept a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Grammy’s two years ago.

According to Consequence, he originally believed the Recording Academy wanted his attention for “something stupid.”

“The Grammy’s kept wanting to talk to me on the phone and I kept telling my manager, ‘I don’t want to talk to them. I hate those people. They want me to be in an exhibit in their museum or something,” he told Classic Rock Magazine.

He would soon learn the Recording Academy wanted to commemorate his legacy with something special- a Lifetime Achievement award!

“When I finally spoke to the lady from the Grammy’s a couple months later,” he continued, “she said: ‘we wanted to give you the lifetime achievement.’ ‘Without you there’s no Lil Nas X or Billie Eilish. According to her, ‘You’re a direct link to the artists that are at the top of our awards list this year.’ So that’s what one person had to say,” he continued, “and I’ll take that for what it’s worth.”

He would also add in the interview he believed “Things changed and society met me halfway” as the reason for The Recording Academy and co. glancing in his direction at all. In spite of the change, don’t count on the “Fun Time” singer to ever feel any warm and fuzzy feelings for The Grammy’s.

“I still hate those people,” he told the outlet in his signature brash manner.

Iggy Pop’s latest album “Every Loser” will be released at some point in 2023!
