Diego Luna Hints K-2SO Might Show Up in Andor Season 2

Diego Luna, who plays the titular character in the upcoming Star Wars series Andor, has teased that the droid K-2SO might appear in season 2 of the show. Luna first played Cassian Andor in the 2016 film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which also saw the first appearance of Alan Tudyk as K-2SO, a reprogrammed Imperial enforcer droid. Andor season 1 is scheduled to drop on Disney+ this coming August.

Andor will serve mainly as a prequel to Rogue One, taking place five years beforehand and centering on Luna’s titular character, during a time in the Star Wars timeline in which the evil Galactic Empire maintains control of the galaxy. The series will follow Andor’s journey to discover what he can bring to the Rebellion, as it is slowly gaining momentum to make a move against the Empire. Also joining the cast are Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, and Genevieve O’Reilly, who returns as the Rebellion general Mon Mothma.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Luna dropped a small hint that, while Tudyk’s comedic droid will not be in Andor season 1, he may have a role in Andor season 2. Luna reminisced on the fun he had with Tudyk while working on Rogue One, professing to constantly miss him, before teasing his possible re-emergence. Read the excerpt from the interview below:

I’m always going to miss Alan Tudyk. I’ve missed Alan Tudyk from the moment they said wrap on the film, and I wish I could be next to him every moment of my life. But after saying that, this part of the story is five years before Rogue One. It’s before Cassian has made any connection with K-2, so we’ll see what happens in the next part.

The very first teaser trailer for Andor finally dropped yesterday during Star Wars Celebration, along with the first teaser poster. Showcasing an ominous and gritty tone first and foremost, the trailer garnered over four million views on YouTube within its first 24 hours. Lucasfilm also confirmed that with two seasons, Andor will have 24 episodes in total, with the final moments said to lead right into Rogue One. While the first season will take place five years beforehand, the second season will supposedly cover the next four years of Andor’s journey.

Given this information, it’s only logical to conclude that Cassian Andor will meet his future robotic partner in his show’s second season. Seeing as K-2SO was one of the fan-favorite highlights of Rogue One, it will certainly be interesting to discover how the two characters met each other, how the droid was reprogrammed, and possibly how he came to acquire his deadpan sense of humor. For now, Star Wars fans are eating well with the first two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi having just premiered on Disney+, and Andor season 1 dropping on August 31st.
