Lin-Manuel Miranda Hopes To See An ‘Encanto’ Theme Park Attraction
Lin-Manuel Miranda expresses his desire to get an "Encanto" theme-park attraction for the movie, especially before talks of a sequel...

Since the film’s release last year, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical soundtracks for Disney’s animated fantasy film “Encanto” have received a lot of accolades. The composer was involved in practically every song, penning a total of eight, each of which focused on different members from the Madrigal family – the magical clan who had powers passed down over generations.

Despite fans’ recent clamors for a sequel, the showrunners at Disney have yet to confirm whether or not a sequel is in the works. On the other hand, Miranda is less keen to work on a sequel and more interested in seeing the film spawn the building of a Disney land theme park experience for fans of the “Encanto” story.

An ‘Encanto’ Sequel Or Theme Park, Which Should Come First?

Miranda spoke to Insider on the red carpet of the Hispanic Federation’s annual gala in New York City on Thursday and said that he’d rather go to Walt Disney World or Disneyland to witness a theme park attraction than start working on putting up scores for an “Encanto” sequel or spin-off.

“It was funny because everyone’s like, ‘Will there be a sequel? Will there be a show?’ and I said, ‘I want a ride before I want any of that,'” he said.

“Encanto,” Disney’s 60th animated feature picture, premiered in theaters in November and was distributed on Disney+ in December to critical acclaim. Given the film’s series of appealing music and likable personalities, it’s no surprise that Miranda wishes “Encanto” and its characters could be integrated into Disney parks.

Although no such plans have been made public, a sequel to “Encanto” will bolster the film’s claim to being a personal theme park experience, allowing fans to re-live some of the film’s moments.

Miranda Proposed The Encanto Theme Park Idea To Disney CEO Bob Chapek

Miranda also confessed that he had not sat on his hands when it came to his desire to see the “Encanto” theme park become a reality. The music composer revealed that he had taken several steps, including discussing with Disney CEO Bob Chapek.

“I talked to him and said, ‘I know there’s a world in which this casita lives in a theme park, and we get to actually walk through it in real life,'” Miranda told the news outlet, referencing their dual desire to bring to reality the Madrigal family’s magical home.

He then added that he wants to “go in and out of this casita and see those characters and see the house respond because that’s something Disney can do that no one else can do.”

Actor Josh Gad Also Shares Miranda’s Desire To See ‘Encanto’ Get A Theme Park

Manuel is not the only creative who wishes to see “Encanto” incorporated into theme parks. Josh Gad, who played Olaf in the “Frozen” trilogy, posted a tweet in January that revealed his desire to see a Colombia pavilion at Epcot with references to the film.

The tweet read: “As we watch for the thousandth time, my kids and I decided we want a Columbia attraction at #Epcot with a full #Encanto ride-through attraction.”
The actor then proceeded to tag the relevant showrunners saying,” please make this happen. Sincerely, the Gads.”

Fans quickly agreed with his plea in the comments area, demonstrating that such a suggestion would be warmly received if the project was approved.

A Mystical Dark Ride

Miranda’s ambition for a theme park remains a possibility, as showrunners at Disney have not declared that they are against the notion. While the composer has stated that he would love to have the magical house from the film within the theme park, this is not the only way real-life “Encanto” moments can be experienced.

Disney is known for its imaginative and mystical dark rides, so an Encanto-themed dark ride seems like a natural fit. Riders would be taken through Casita and would follow Mirabel on her quest to save the house’s magic.

All of the magical Madrigals could come to life using projection technology similar to that used in experiences like “Frozen Ever After” and “Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway,” making for a bright, entertaining journey. Naturally, all of the catchy music would have to be included in the ride’s scenarios.
