That ‘90s Show Image Reveals Reversal Of Major Season 8 Kitty Change
That '90s Show's first official image of Kitty and Red Forman reveals that the spinoff has already undone one major That '70s Show season 8 change.

Netflix’s first image of That ‘90s Show’s returning characters reveals that the spinoff has undone a major Kitty Forman change from That ‘70s Show season 8. That ‘90s Show’s first-look image of Kitty and Red Forman depicts the iconic That ‘70s Show characters as grandparents in 1995, with their outfits suggesting preparations for the 4th of July. While the photo hints at Kitty and Red picking up in That ‘90s Show the same as they left off in That ‘70s Show’s finale, one key change has already been revealed.

That ‘70s Show season 8, while notable for being the weakest installment of the series, also came with a few important adjustments for the iconic characters. Although the introduction of Randy as a replacement for Eric and Kelso has been regarded divisively over the years, certain season 8 changes for characters like Kitty, Red, Bob, and Leo made the final season much more worthwhile. The biggest adjustments were seen in Kitty, with the character receiving much more significant storylines and stylistic changes in the final season as she prepared for a new era in Point Place.

One of the first major changes in That ‘70s Show season 8 was Kitty’s hair, as episode 5 saw Eric Forman’s mom debut a completely new style. While changing hairstyles typically wouldn’t be too noticeable, That ‘70s Show characters’ were remembered for largely maintaining their signature hairdos, with any major changes inevitably becoming plot points in the episodes. One such focus occurred in That ‘70s Show season 8 when Kitty burned her hair on candles, so she came home from the salon with a much more modern look that better reflected the more natural hairstyles of her actress Debra Jo Rupp. After seven seasons with Kitty’s iconic ‘70s-style cut, her more modern look for season 8 was a significant adjustment for the character. However, That ‘90s Show’s first image reveals that Kitty’s hairdo is now back to its original style, thus undoing her biggest physical season 8 change.

While Kitty’s original That ‘70s Show hairdo remained iconic, it also caused issues for Debra Jo Rupp’s own hair due to excessive damage from styling. Consequently, Rupp began wearing a wig from That ‘70s Show season 2 on, with season 8’s change allowing her to instead wear a more natural ‘90s and ’00-era look. As such, it’s surprising for That ‘90s Show to be reverting to Kitty’s ‘70s hairdo when season 8 had already upgraded her to a more modern, ‘90s-appropriate style. Perhaps trying to benefit from the nostalgia of her signature That ‘70s Show look, That ‘90s Show seems to be suggesting that Kitty and Red are still stuck in the ‘70s era style.

Although That ‘90s Show opened the opportunity for all of the original That ‘70s Show characters to return with completely new looks for a new era, it seems that Kitty and Red will be the figures still maintaining the sentiment of the original series’ culture and style. However, this doesn’t mean That ’90s Show‘s returning characters like Eric, Donna, Kelso, Jackie, and Fez will be keeping their same ‘70s looks, as the feathered hairstyles of their teenage years may be traded in for bangs, “the heartthrob,” blonde highlights, or even Friends’ “The Rachel.” While That ‘90s Show has undone Kitty’s season 8 hair change to return to her ‘70s look, the younger characters are apt to come back with new ‘90s-era looks.
