Marcus Freeman’s 2024 Notre Dame recruting class is currently best in the nation

It hasn’t been the best of seasons for first-year Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman — with losses to Ohio State, Marshall, and Stanford — but his Fighting Irish are still 7-3 and ranked No. 18 in the nation.

It’s not great, but it’s also not terrible. With that said, there is reason to believe that the Fighting Irish have something they can build off of as Freeman grows as a college football coach. They also have the No. 1 2024 recruiting class in the nation, according to 247Sports. Talk about something to build off of. If Freeman continues to clean up on the recruiting trail, there’s no reason to think that he won’t bring the Irish back to greatness sometime soon.

With seven commitments, six of which are 4-star players, Notre Dame currently sits on top of the 2024 rankings, looking down at college football superpowers like Georgia, LSU, Florida State, and Alabama.

Notre Dame’s top 2024 recruit right now is quarterback C.J. Carr, who projects to be the future of the program once he makes his way onto campus. Carr, the grandson of legendary Michigan coach Lloyd Carr, checks in at nearly 6-foot-3, 195 pounds and he’s ranked as the No. 5 quarterback in the nation.

“Very safe projection as a college starter based on maturity, approach and skill set,” 247Sports says of Carr in its scouting report of the young quarterback.

Cam Williams, 4-star wide receiver, also projects to be a big part of Notre Dame football moving forward. He checks in at 6-foot-2, 185 pounds as a junior in high school, and much like Carr, he’s ranked as the No. 5 player at his position across the nation.

“Is a prospect with great positional skills in addition to his physical gifts though and is a high major impact player who can contribute early because he shows polish to his game at a younger age,” Writes 247Sports.

Notre Dame’s 2023 class checked in at No. 3 nationally behind just Alabama and Georgia. Freeman still has work to do on the field with the Fighting Irish, but the early returns on the recruiting trail have to have fans feeling excited about the future of Notre Dame football.
