‘Housewives’ Producer Details Finding Lenny Hochstein Hot Mic Moment: ‘Can’t Hide Their Real Lives’

A ‘Real Housewives’ producer who worked on many of the series spinoffs is sharing how they nailed Lenny Hochstein’s hot mic moment.

Real Housewives Has A Great Team

The people who work on the franchise really do a great job with all the post-production work. They go above and beyond and sift through a lot of footage to get the best moments so far they have caught some great ones but one that has stood out most recently was Lenny’s hot mic moment.

Producer Lauren Kaylor said it was accidental that she landed on the Lenny footage but at the same time, as a producer, her intuition was eating away at her that something was happening at the party. It took “hours and hours and hours” for Lauren to come across the footage said Katheleen French the SVP, Current Production, NBCUniversal Television, and Streaming.

How It All Went Down For Lenny Hochstein

“One day, [Lauren] was having a sandwich and she said, ‘I want to know what Lenny was doing during the party.’ … She was listening to his audio the whole time and she was the one who found the hot mic moment juxtaposed with Lisa outside talking about how wonderful the marriage is,” recalls French.

Lauren is a veteran producer and French relied heavily on her experience throughout. She cites her experience as one of the reasons why she was able to catch something like this.

“There’s a certain style of producer. And I call them ‘part ferret’ because they just get in there and they listen. They’re looking for things and they just have an intuitive sense of what’s happened. It’s really what makes ‘Housewives’ ‘Housewives.’”

Lenny’s cheating scandal has been carrying the Real Housewives of Miami this season, not that there isn’t enough drama to go without it. The consistency of Lenny and Lisa Hochstein’s divorce is mind-blowing. it creeps into every episode of the show this season so far.

The producer shared that editing the housewives is always a treat because you never know what you are in for. “You just never know what’s there and you don’t always know what’s happening at these parties until you get back into the edit bay and you can really dissect and get into it.”

French is proud of how well the franchise is doing after so long. “It’s a great franchise. We’re really proud of it. The people who work on the shows love the shows.”

French works on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and The Real Housewives of Miami and believes that the cast is just as proud of the show.

“I think the women are proud of what they do and speaking both as an executive producer and also as a network exec, I’m so proud of the franchise as well.”

Housewives Is Its Own Universe Now

Housewives has spanned way farther than anyone would have thought. There are 11 American series and 19 international ones and the Ultimate Girls Trip spinoffs as well. It’s a lot for sure.

“I feel that it is this Marvel Cinematic Universe. Everyone has their storyline and then they all kind of come together,” said another producer who works on the Jersey housewives and Miami as well. “Kyle [Richards] is friends with Marysol [Patton] and Teresa [Giudice] speaks to Alexia [Echevarria]. They give each other their psychic numbers and where they can get their injections from,” she elaborated. “It’s really this universe, this ecosystem that has been created.”

It was also pointed out that the housewives franchise isn’t for everyone. “Some people really think that they can come on the show and hide their real lives,” and as the fans have seen, that never works out.
