Queens & Promised Land Both Canceled After One Season At ABC
Two ABC dramas, Queens and Promised Land, have been canceled after only one season each with the network citing low viewership numbers.

Both Queens and Promised Land have been canceled by ABC after just one season each. The musical drama Queens – featuring well-known talents such as Eve, Naturi Naughton, Nadine Velazquez, and Brandy – followed four women in their forties attempting to reunite and reclaim the level of fame they once experienced as a former 90s hip-hop group. Promised Land explored the drama between two Latino families striving for the wealth and power that would come from managing a successful vineyard in Sonoma County, California. It starred John Ortiz, Cecilia Suárez, Augusto Aguilera, Christina Ochoa, and Bellamy Young. Queens and Promised Land brought increased representation to the television network and received largely positive initial reactions from fans and critics.

Deadline recently reported on the cancellation of both Queens and Promised Land and what might have led to ABC’s decision regarding the shows. While high expectations surrounded Queens, the series underperformed compared to its competing programming and faced the departure of one of its stars, Eve, who took a hiatus after announcing her pregnancy. As for Promised Land, it was the network’s least-watched scripted series and was eventually removed from its schedule mid-season, with its last five episodes having been released on Hulu.

It will be interesting to see how fans react to the news of both shows’ cancellations, however, the decrease in viewership suggests this was to be expected. Given the success of family dramas like Dynasty and Succession, as well as recent hits centered around the music industry, it seems somewhat surprising that neither series caught on though. As Queens and Promised Land now exit ABC’s lineup, viewers can still look forward to new and returning programs premiering soon.
