Josh Heupel has gone 18-8 in two years as head coach of the Tennessee Volunteers. Last season was largely a massive success for the Vols.

They were 11-2 and consistently one of the highest-ranked teams in college football, which is nothing to scoff at.

As such, Tennessee has decided to reward Heupel with a contract extension.

According to the school’s football website, Heupel’s contract extension will take him through the 2029 season in Knoxville and he will earn a raise. His contract is now for $9M annually, which per ESPN, is a $4M raise.

“The results over Josh’s first two seasons speak for themselves,” Vice Chancellor/Director of Athletics Danny White said in a statement. “He and his staff have energized both our football program and our fanbase with an aggressive brand of football, a competitive culture that creates leaders and a relentless approach to raising the bar every single day.”

Even more impressive than Tennessee’s win-loss record this past season under Heupel was the quality of the Volunteers’ wins. More than anything else, that should give Tennessee fans incredible hope for the future.

Tennessee’s wins from 2022 include clashes at No. 22 Pittsburgh and No. 25 LSU, as well as home wins against No. 20 Florida, No. 3 Alabama, and No. 19 Kentucky. Tennessee also beat Clemson in the Capital One Orange Bowl.

“Our staff takes great pride in representing the Power T, and it’s something we never take for granted. We will continue to work tirelessly to build a championship program that all of Vol Nation and all VFLs can be proud of,” Heupel said.

“Most importantly, our players are the people who deserve all of the credit for our resurgence on Rocky Top. Over the last two years, they believed in us and poured their energy into every single day with hard work, leadership, cohesiveness and consistent habits. I am proud to be their coach.”
