Warwick, 82, frequently collaborated with Bacharach in her heydey, singing notable compositions of Bacharach and his frequent songwriting partner Hal David.

Warwick’s version of “I Say A Little Prayer” would experience a cultural renaissance in the late 1990’s after its use in the hit Julia Roberts romantic comedy, “My Best Friend’s Wedding.” Bacharach and David’s “Walk On By” was also famously recorded by Warwick.

Warwick has become a fixture on Twitter in recent years. Her funny, (and sometimes quite blunt) tweets have undoubtedly helped introduce her to a new generation of fans.

She took to Twitter on Thursday afternoon to pay tribute to her late friend and collaborator.

In addition to the vintage photo, Warwick would share her thoughts on Bacharach’s passing in a thread.

“Burt’s transition is like losing a family member,” Warwick’s Twitter tribute began. “These words I’ve been asked to write are being written with sadness over the loss of my Dear Friend and my Musical Partner. On the lighter side we laughed a lot and had our run ins, but always found a way to let each other know our family, like roots, were the most important part of our relationship. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family, letting them know he is now peacefully resting, and I too will miss him,” Warwick concluded.

“Oh Ms. Dionne, I’m so sorry for this tremendous loss of such a hugely talented man. Of your friend. Wife and I spent the morning on YouTube singing and bopping around to his most popular hits, many sung by you. May his memory be a blessing,” a fan commented.

“I’m so sorry Miss. Dionne. He was one of my all time favorite songwriters, and you two were magic together. Sending love your way,” another fan tweeted.

“Your exquisite creative collaborations will forever bring us joy,” a fan reassured Warwick.

“You were a master at bringing his and David’s songs to life,” the owner of a film fan account told the singer, “What a tremendous partnership all of us got to enjoy. Thank you for doing them justice and so deeply sorry for your loss.”

“You’re the first person who came to mind when I heard he had passed. Such a long and cherished relationship I’m sure,” another fan tweeted to Warwick.

Warwick has been transparent about her relationship with her frequent musical partner over the years. She would give insight into the evolving state of their relationship in interviews. She once told The Los Angeles Times, “We fell out, we fell back in,” as a result of a contract dispute which resulted in a lawsuit. “Burt and I are more family than friends,” she would also tell the outlet.

Bacharach was equally fond of Warwick. He once called her “the perfect voice” for his compositions written alongside David.

“It was a case of all the right people in the right place at the right time,” Bacharach told The Chicago Tribune in the Eighties. “Hal and I found the perfect partnership and Dionne was the perfect voice for our songs,” he said. (via The Los Angeles Times)
