Yesterday in my post about Leonardo DiCaprio in London, I mentioned that perhaps the most high-anticipated presentation at London Fashion Week was the Burberry show, the first under new creative director Daniel Lee. It’s a new era at Burberry – and from what I’ve seen, the Burberry reset has been generally well-received by fashion critics. For me, it was a smash hit. It hits me where I live: clashing prints and big plaid, layers and shape and flow.

Burberry of course attracted its share of celebrities, including brand ambassadors, like Tottenham Hotspur Son Heung-min, aka Sonny, fresh from scoring off the bench against West Ham on Sunday. Sonny wasn’t the only Korean superstar there. Jun Ji-hyun, one of the most famous Korean actresses of the last two decades, and also a Burberry ambassador, was also in the front row.

The other big show yesterday was Moncler and its Art of Genius collaboration, prominently featuring Pharrell who was just announced last week as the new creative director for Louis Vuitton menswear. That’s obviously a new development, established well after his work with Moncler. But the showcase with Moncler could signal the potential of whatever he’ll bring to LV.

Justin and Hailey Bieber were at Moncler, as were Naomi Campbell, Serena Williams, and Marcus Rashford. Also… Lewis Hamilton.

We’re now just under two weeks away from the start of the 2023 F1 season and pre-testing starts in Bahrain on Thursday so we should get a bit of an idea of whether or not this year’s car can accommodate Lewis’s talent.

Off the track though, Lewis is contending with some other issues ahead of the first race. The FIA introduced new regulations “banning the display of political, religious and personal statements unless previously approved in writing. Drivers who do not comply by the rules risk both financial and sporting penalties.”

Lewis Hamilton is the most outspoken driver on the circuit and he often uses his platform to raise awareness about social injustice. In response to the new rules, Lewis insisted that:

“Nothing will stop me from speaking on the things I am passionate about. The sport has a responsibility to speak out and create awareness on important topics, particularly as we are traveling to different places. So nothing changes.”

This is especially significant at the Formula 1 schedule stops in places where there are human rights abuses, for example 2SLGBTQ+ rights. Lewis has previously raced in a rainbow helmet in support of the community. As he says, he will not be deterred by these regulations. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out through the season.
