Miley Cyrus’ Song ‘Flowers’ Is Dominating The Charts

Cyrus started 2023 with a bang after releasing her self-love anthem, “Flowers.” The catchy song, which debuted atop the Billboard Hot 100  chart at number 1, has managed to sustain that position for the past four weeks. The song is also holding strong in the UK, as it has spent five weeks at the top spot in their official singles chart.

According to Billboard, “Flowers” has quickly become the singer’s biggest song in the UK, easily surpassing her previous hit songs, the 2013 “Bangerez” tracks “Wrecking Ball” and “We Can’t Stop.” The song also shattered Spotify’s single-day streams on its debut and consistently set new records weekly and daily.

The success of the song could be a result of its deep, meaningful lyrics and catchy tune. It also alludes to the former Disney child star’s past relationship with actor Liam Hemsworth. The pair dated on and off for a while and even got engaged before finally ending things in 2019.

Is ‘Flowers’ About Liam Hemsworth?

“Flowers,” the song that has beautifully ushered in Cyrus’ new era in music, definitely has a lot to do and say about her ex, Hemsworth.

The powerful self-love anthem was released on January 13th, which coincidentally happened to be the “The Hunger Games” actor’s 33rd birthday. This alone made fans assume that the song was in some ways related to him. But the lyrics drive things up a notch.

In “Flowers,” Cyrus makes reference to the Malibu home she shared with Hemsworth burning down in the Woolsey fire. At the beginning of the song, she sings, “We were right ’til we weren’t / Built a home and watched it burn.”

Through the track, she also states, “I didn’t wanna leave you, baby / I didn’t wanna fight.” This line has been claimed to be in reference to reports stating that she didn’t want to end things with the actor but needed to for her well-being as she can’t change who she is.
