AS reported that Tayeb Benabderrahmane filed a complaint several months ago in which he claimed he had been tortured in Qatar in 2020 for possessing documents that contained compromising information on Al-Khelaïfi.

L’Équipe initially reported that Benabderrahmane filed a complaint with civil action. French laws allow for a judicial investigation to be conducted in regards to the alleged crimes.

His lawyers, Maïtres Romain Ruiz and Gabriel Vejnar, claimed to be “very satisfied” with the outcome after spending months trying to get the attention of the French justice, who they criticised for a lack of action.

It is believed that the information Benabderrahmane had information that could be stored on the phone belonging to Al-Khelaïfi.

The matter is alleged to be in connection with the awarding of the 2022 World Cup to Qatar or awarding of television rights of coverage at the 2026 and 2030 World Cups in the Middle East to BeIN Media.

Al-Khelaïfi has already been investigated – and acquitted – in relation to this subject due to his relationship with the former Secretary General of FIFA, Jerôme Vackle.

Both were accused of negotiating the rights of hosting and broadcasting the three World Cups in question behind the backs of the governing body.
