There’s something so satisfying about a full-circle moment. It’s almost like a movie, where something in your past foreshadowed your future. It kinda feels meant to be.

Here are 17 full-circle moments from Hollywood that make me believe there’s no such thing as a coincidence:

1. When Barry Keoghan was a kid, a box office worker named Rory Cashin caught him trying to sneak into Cineworld in Dublin and kicked him out. Years later, Barry was finally allowed back into the theater for the Irish premiere of his movie Eternals — and Rory, who’s now a reporter, interviewed him.

Speaking to Rory for a JOE interview, Barry said, “I wasn’t going to say anything, but going through Cineworld last night, I remembered going there with your cousin Gary, being like ‘Are you gonna let us in? This is your cousin and all!’ and you were just like ‘Nope, not getting in!’ I was such a… pardon my French… but such a shithead back then. I used to try to bunk in and [you] would catch me. But it was nice to have the premiere there last night and be allowed in! The irony!”

2. When Jessica Chastain was in college, she got to hear Philip Seymour Hoffman speak to her class. He ended his talk with, “I look forward to working with each of you.” A few years later, Jessica and Philip ended up costarring in a production of Othello.

In her SAG Awards acceptance speech, she said, “I’m telling this story now because it reminds me of how powerful our mind is and that we are what our thoughts create. So I just wanna tell everyone who might be struggling at home, to all the actors that I get to meet, keep going. You’re one job away. I look forward to working with you. I’ll see you on set. I love you.'”

3. When Howard University awarded Angela Bassett an honorary degree, the student who showed her around was Chadwick Boseman. Years later, they reunited “as friends and colleagues” when they played mother and son in Black Panther. During the premiere party, he reminded her of the first time they met.

In an Instagram tribute to Chadwick, she said, “It was meant to be for Chadwick and me to be connected, for us to be family.”

4. When Angela Bassett attended the Yale School of Drama, she started FOLKS, a group that served as a place for Black students to connect. More than three decades later, Winston Duke and Lupita Nyong’o joined FOLKS together. Then, a few years later, all three of them costarred in Black Panther.

At the Wearable Art Gallery, Lupita introduced Angela and thanked her for FOLKS and its impact on generations of students.

5. As classmates at Yale, Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke saw The Avengers in theaters together, and they shared a dream of being in a movie that big one day. In 2018, they both made their Marvel debut in Black Panther.

Winston told Esquire, “We would always tell ourselves that they’re going to do it someday, but we could never tell who. At that point there was already the Blade films, but we really didn’t know how Marvel would go about doing their first African superhero.”

6. When Kelsea Ballerini was 15, she waited with other fans outside the barricade at the CMT Awards to see her favorite country stars. In 2015, she attended as a nominee. Several years later, she was asked to host the show for the third time in 2023.

She was just like, ‘You did a great performance, I’m gonna call you.’ Now I’m here, and I can’t believe it. I feel like I’m lying. I feel like this is a dream.”

12. During what was “probably the darkest time of [his] life,” The Weeknd saw Avatar in theaters, and it “was such an escape from real life that the film is tattooed in [his] brain.” When the long-awaited sequel finally came out in 2022, he got to see an early cut because James Cameron asked him to write a theme song for it.
