“Dude’s Just A Man Baby”: 14 Movie And TV Characters That Folks Think Are Beyond Redemption

There are some fictional villains (and heroes) whose actions are made understandable through a good motive, an illuminating backstory, or simply a likable personality. And then, there are those who embody to viewers the very definition of “irredeemable.” So, redditor u/RepresentativeTie898 got plenty of dastardly responses when they asked the pop culture buffs of AskReddit, “Which fictional character hero or villain has absolutely no redeeming qualities?” Here are 14 of their nominations to this exclusive pantheon of onscreen evil.

Responses have been edited for length and/or clarity.

1. “Lotso from Toy Story 3. He totally had a chance to redeem himself, and he didn’t.”

4. “It’s dumb, but Jack Horner from the new Puss in Boots movie. It was honestly refreshing to see a villain who was just totally a piece of shit with no tragic backstory for the audience to sympathize with.”

5. “Ozai from Avatar: The Last Airbender. Dude’s just a man baby with a bit of extra heat.”

6. “Norman Osborn from Spider-Man. Just a rich asshole who thinks the world belongs to him. He became a supervillain, killed Peter’s first girlfriend, then literally created another supervillain. Not to mention that just about every other villain became a villain because of their hatred for Osborn.”

7. “Gothel from Tangled. Woman kidnapped and gaslighted a child and kept her in a tower for 18 YEARS just because she wanted to keep her vain ass young for eternity. Not to mention that, if the Tangled TV series is considered, she apparently abandoned her biological child in order to do so.”

8. “Palpatine from Star Wars. Everything he did that made it seem like he cared about Anakin or the galaxy was just him manipulating people into doing his bidding and increasing his power.”

9. “Walter from Breaking Bad. He had his good moments, but overall, when it came down to it, he only cared about the money. His family was just an excuse for his actions.”

10. “The Joker’s whole schtick is that he does what he does because he enjoys inflicting suffering and trying to push the world into chaos. Other Batman villains have their own personal motivations for doing what they do, but the Joker just ‘wants to watch the world burn.'”

11. “I’m surprised nobody has said Black Jack Randall from Outlander. That guy drips pure evil. Arguably the most fucked-up character from any TV show, ever.”

12. “I remember always being mad when I finished yet another book of A Series of Unfortunate Events and found out that Count Olaf got away again, and he got another good (or maybe less good) caretaker killed.”

13. “Joffrey from Game of Thrones. The boy is evil, through and through.”

14. And finally, the sworn enemy of humanity and the one thing that almost everyone on the internet can agree on: “Caillou, the stupid bald brat. Biggest blight on children’s television.”

“I would not let my child watch that when he was younger. I can’t stand that cartoon kid.”

Which fictional villains do you find beyond redemption? Tell us about ’em in the comments!

Also, can someone explain why people hate Caillou so much? I’ve never watched it, so maybe he is capable of Joker-level horrors and I’ve just been living in ignorant bliss for all this time.
