Pitt QB Kedon Slovis has a major decision ahead of him regarding 2023 season

Quarterback Kedon Slovis transferred from USC to Pitt with the intention of following in Kenny Pickett’s footsteps and becoming a big-time college football player. Who knows? Maybe he even planned on following Pickett into the NFL.

Unfortunately for Slovis, much thanks to an unfamiliar offensive scheme and an early-season injury, 2022 hasn’t been kind to him.

Could another change of scenery be his next, and final, move as a college football quarterback? Or how about taking a shot at the NFL Draft?

It certainly sounds like both could be potential options for the Scottsdale, Arizona native.

Slovis has thrown for just 1,945 yards and six touchdowns this season with six interceptions in nine games. He’s among the worst quarterbacks in the ACC in average quarterback rating (126.34) and competition percentage (59.2%).

He’s been far from Kenny Pickett, who now plays right across the street for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

This season has been so disappointing, in fact, that Slovis is openly unsure about whether or not he’ll return to the Panthers next season.

“I told coach I’m not sure yet,” Slovis said regarding his plans for 2023, per ESPN.

Slovis was at USC from 2019-21, where he started 26 games for the Trojans over three seasons. He transferred to Pitt with two years of eligibility remaining under his belt thanks to the COVID-19 blanket waiver the NCAA gave student-athletes after the COVID-impacted 2020 season.

Coming back to Pitt would allow him another offseason to integrate himself into the system. He could transfer somewhere else, though, and play immediately thanks to the NCAA’s new transfer eligibility rules.

As mentioned, he could even throw his hat into the NFL Draft if he thinks a team may take a shot on his potential in the latter rounds

Decisions, decisions. It sounds like whichever way Slovis decides to go, he still has plenty to think about.

“We’ve got two more games, we’re focused on that,” he continued. “But really (head coach Pat Narduzzi and I are) just organizing the types of things I need to know or the information I need to get to make a decision.”
