James Wan's remake of the hit 1990 horror comedy, Arachnophobia, has added Happy Death Day's Christopher Landon as the film's writer & director.
James Wan's Arachnophobia Remake Gets Happy Death Day Director
Horror legend James Wan, along with Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon, is officially on board the upcoming remake of the 1990 hit film Arachnophobia. The original horror-comedy saw Dr. Ross Jennings (Jeff Daniels) attempting to save a small California town from an invasion of venomous South American spiders. John Goodman also appeared in the original Arachnophobia film as the local exterminator, with Julian Sands and Harley Jane Kozak rounding out the iconic horror comedy cast.
Now, it has been announced that Landon is currently onboard to write and direct the upcoming Arachnophobia remake for Amblin Partners, via THR. Amblin is partnering with Wan’s Atomic Monster to bring forth the project, with Wan and Michael Clear (Malignant, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It) onboard to produce. The original Arachnophobia director, Frank Marshall, will also be joining the horror comedy remake as an executive producer along with Judson Scott.
Landon began making waves in the horror genre with the release of the hit thriller film Disturbia in 2007. Since then, Landon has directed Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, Happy Death Day and its sequel, as well as Freaky, just to name a few. With a resume packed full of horror comedies, Landon is the perfect person to spearhead a remake of Arachnophobia. With the combination of horror legend Wan and the bloody comedic sensibilities of Landon, the Arachnophobia remake is already proving to be a gory revision that genre fans won’t want to miss.
