After the ceremony, the “Scandal” star even shared her excitement at rocking the outfit with her social media followers.

March 6, 2023, is not a day that Washington would forget anytime soon as she made a bold fashion statement in the Marc Bouwer-designed dress she wore to the American Black Film Honors. The figure-hugging outfit featured a ruched style fabric and a halter neckline, which she paired with matching red pumps.

For glam, the 46-year-old opted for light blush, smoky eyes, soft pink lipstick, and her dark hair styled into loose, voluminous curls. She kept her jewelry minimal, accessorizing with diamond studs and finger rings.

Even though she accrued compliments from her celebrity guests and friends, the Primetime Emmy Award nominee ensured she gushed over the dress with her online fans. Taking to Instagram, Washington posted a video, along with the caption that read:

“No lies told. Whitney Houston’s actual marcbouwer dress she wore in 1996 ?. So incredibly special. #ABFFAwards here I come! ❤️❤️❤️.”

In the clip, an automated voice is heard reading the overlay text, “What’s cooler than wearing Whitney Houston’s dress?” as the “Little Fires Everywhere” actress belted out, “Nothing! Nothing!! Nothing!!!” — a lyric from Houston’s 1992 hit song, “I Have Nothing.”

The footage quickly spread across the internet, gaining over a million views and nearly 110k likes. The comment section was also included as one person happily wrote, “This is a colliding of worlds that I never knew I needed. Like… you talk about my 2 FAVS having a mash-up moment? It’s THIS. ?❤️ (And ya look GOOD!).”

A second viewer claimed, “I guarantee Whitney is honored an iconic queen like you is wearing it. Now two gorgeous queens have worn it,” and a third joked, “Let me get that when you’re done, Kerry.”

The lovely atmosphere remained hours later when Washington shared another post featuring two new photos. While the first image was an up-close look at her glammed face, the second was a full view of the actress posing in front of a door.

The four-time Screen Actors Guild Awards nominee had previously warmed the hearts of many when she was honored at the TIME Women of the Year gala last year. The Blast reported at the time that the New York native shared her pleasure at being in the same category as women whom she viewed as heroes for their charitable work.

“There’s so much work to do to make this world a better place, so it’s really thrilling to be able to celebrate some women who are working towards that,” Washington stated. She added that being a “girl mom” gave her a different worldview about the works of the celebrated women and inspired her to strive harder for her kids.

Washington is the proud mom of two children, a daughter Isabelle Amarachi Asomugha and a son Caleb Kelechi Asomugha, whom she shares with her husband, Nnamdi Asomugha.

The NAACP Image Awards Winner Set To Release Memoir Later This Year

Soon after she informed fans of her upcoming memoir, “Thicker Than Water,” the Black Reel Awards winner spilled some extra tea in a press release. As reported by The Blast, the producer stated:

“Writing a memoir is, by far, the most deeply personal project I have ever taken on. I hope that readers will receive it with open hearts and I pray that it offers new insights and perspectives, and invites people into deeper compassion — for themselves and others.”

The “Confirmation” star further detailed in the release that the memoir would focus on her life while sharing how she dealt with the challenges, traumas, and setbacks of building her career.

“Thicker Than Water” would also explore how Washington “crossed the threshold into stardom and political advocacy, ultimately discovering her truest self and, with it, a deeper sense of belonging.”

The memoir, scheduled for a September 2023 release, will be released in hardcover by Little, Brown Spark – a division of Little, Brown, and Company.
