Will The Last Of Us Season 2 Cover The Events Of The Game Entirely? "No Way," Writer Says
Writers Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann have teased the upcoming second season of the hit HBO series The Last of Us. In an interview with GQ, Mazin said the hope is the same for the first season, and that is to make the best show possible even if some people don’t like it. Mazin and Druckmann also strongly teased that there will be a third season of the series.
It’s understood that The Last of Us Season 2 will cover at least some of the events of the second video game, but when asked if Season 2 will span the entire course of the sequel, Mazin said, “No. No way.”
Druckmann, for his part, said, “It’s more than one season.” Mazin wouldn’t confirm if the series will be two or three seasons long, however. “We will not say how many,” Mazin said. He previously talked about how the aim for The Last of Us is to not overstay its welcome.
For Season 2, Mazin said follow a similar path as the first one in that it will stay in step with the video game and also deviate from it.
“There are going to be things that are going to be different, and there are things that are going to be identica [to the game],” Mazin said. “There are things that are going to be added and enriched. There are some things that are going to be flipped. Our goal remains exactly what it was for the first season, which is to deliver a show that makes fans happy. We’ve got an incredible returning cast. It’s a daunting task. But Jesus, so was the first season. You can’t make everyone happy. But we’ve made a lot of people happy and that’s our intention to do it again.”
On the subject of fan feedback, Druckmann said The Last of Us: Part II had its share of haters, but he isn’t interested in interacting with those people.
“I don’t care. How they react is how they react, that is completely outside of our control. So how do we make the best TV show version of that story? That’s the problem that we wrestle with every day,” Druckmann said.

The Last of Us Season 1 wrapped up on March 12 with a heartbreaking, violent, and crushing finale. The show has been a huge ratings success and Season 2 might enter production this year.
