Beloved 90s TV presenter Anneka Rice warns fans she’s ‘bookending her career’

TV presenter Anneka Rice has warned her loyal legion of fans that she is “bookending her career” during an appearance on The One Show.

During Tuesday’s visit to the BBC studios (March 14), Lauren Laverne and Jermain Jenas welcomed viewers back to the teatime talk show where they talked about the blonde bombshell’s career over the past thirty years.

Fans will know her from her iconic appearance on the infamous BBC One makeover show Challenge Anneka which cemented its name in TV history back in the 1990s.

Now, the 64-year-old presenter has returned to the show ready to makeover several challenges in the quiet communities across the UK.

Sitting down with the loveable presenters, the mum-of-three looked back on her TV career as one of the first female TV presenters in makeover shows.

When she was asked to summarise the beloved 90s makeover show, she explained: "It’s all about communities coming together and with Challenge.

"We take on a cause for a charity usually that just too big and costly for them to achieve on there on own.

"And we work out how were going to do it and we throw down the gauntlet and say all those people who want to help, 'We have this window, let’s try and make it happen'."

Jermain went on to ask how the rebooted series has changed more than thirty years on.

Anneka replied: "Oh it’s really lovely for me because it’s sort of bookending my career in a way.

She added: "What’s particularly lovely is that when we started off doing Challenge [Anneka], women in television – there wasn’t a lot of them doing what I was doing on Treasure Hunt.

"And we assembled this amazing group of women to be on the production team all under 30, I met all of them for dinner last night actually – they call themselves the ‘Complete Girls’.

"What was particularly exciting was it just put women in control, calling the shots, in charge of the action."
