Fans Slams The Oscars For Painfully Excluding Anne Heche From In Memoriam Segment

Although there was no headline-grabbing occurrence coming out of the Oscars this year like last time’s “slap” saga, nevertheless the academy is facing backlash for failing to honor Anne Heche.

During the ceremony, there is a segment called “In Memoriam,” where legends who passed away in the past year are remembered and honored. Unfortunately, fans who watched the event this year were not satisfied as they felt slighted that the “Six Days Seven Nights” star’s name was not included.

Outrage as Anne Heche Excluded from Oscars’ In Memoriam’ Segment

Despite Lenny Kravitz’s soulful rendition of “Calling All Angels,” which added an emotional dimension to the moment, viewers still expressed outrage over the 95th Academy Awards for omitting the “Donnie Brasco” star during the segment.

Fans of the star who found the act disrespectful took to Twitter to share their thoughts without holding back. This person noted, “The Oscars should be ashamed not including the deeply talented, too often underrated Anne Heche in their In Memoriam montage. #Oscars.”

A Twitter user expressed shock at the exclusion of the “Volcano” actress. They noted that she faced significant challenges in her life, including “mental health and substance use issues” stemming from early childhood trauma and scrutiny from tabloids after publicly coming out as bisexual.

A hardcore fan could not help but ask angrily, “Where the F*CK was Anne Heche.” This person did not understand why her name was left out and called out the Academy for making what they described as a terrible mistake. They believed she deserved honor regardless of how she died, adding:

“No matter how she die, she was an exciting actress, who should have been acknowledged.”

Even the conspiracy theorists were not left out of it, like this person who felt that there was a sinister motive behind her passing. They quoted a tweet from New York Post, which had the headline, “Paul Sorvino, Anne Heche snubbed by Oscars: Stars missing from In Memoriam.” Above it, they wrote:

“Pretty crazy that hey killed Anne Heche for trying to produce a documentary about child abuse in Hollywood.”

The actress, who passed away on August 11, 2022, at 53, met her end after crashing into a home that resulted in a massive fire. Heche ended up dying from “inhalation and thermal injuries” and a “sternal fracture due to blunt force trauma.” The autopsy report obtained by The Blast revealed that she had cocaine and other drugs in her system during the deadly accident.

The toxicology results also showed that she had benzoylecgonine, an inactive metabolite of cocaine, in her system at the time of the fatal car crash. It also revealed that while cannabinoids were detected in a urine sample, they were not present in her bloodstream, indicating prior but not immediate use.

Additionally, fentanyl was found in her bloodstream, but it had been administered as part of her treatment at the hospital after the accident. Despite the presence of these substances in her system, there was no evidence of impairment by illicit substances at the time of the crash.

Anne Heche’s Legacy Lives On: Son Homer Unveils Cover of Her Memoir ‘Call Me Anne’

Homer Heche Laffoon, determined to carry on his mother’s legacy, unveiled the cover of her upcoming memoir, “Call Me Anne.” As the eldest son of the late actress, whom she shared with ex-husband Coleman Laffoon The Blast reported that while he was still coming to terms with her passing, he continued to promote and celebrate her work.

In January, he took to social media to give fans a glimpse of the book’s release and express his appreciation for her supporters’ affectionate comments. He began the lengthy caption by writing partly, “Hi Everybody, Homer here. Never imagined I’d find myself responsible for mom’s IG account, but here we are.”

After acknowledging the support from her fans, he disclosed, “One day at a time is working for me as I’m sure the healing journey will be a long one. Your good thoughts and well wishes will continue to comfort me on my path.”

He noted that his mother had completed the manuscript before passing and would have been excited to share the work with her fans. He then informed them that there would be a reading and signing event for those in Los Angeles.
